As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for city-building and survival games, I can confidently say that 11 bit studios knocked it out of the park with Frostpunk 2. The expansion on the original’s scope and scale was nothing short of impressive, and within days of its launch, I found myself immersed in this frozen world, trying to keep my people alive.
This year has been filled with major sequels (and another one is due next week), but amidst all that, you might have overlooked the release of “Frostpunk 2” by 11 bit studios. This city-building game based on survival in a social setting built upon the original version’s foundation, pushing its boundaries significantly. It managed to sell over 350,000 copies shortly after its launch, and according to their Q3 fiscal year 2025 financial report, it has since sold 511,000 units in total.
Approximately half of all sales (48.7%) were for the Deluxe Edition, offering early access to the game. Interestingly, 11 bit studios reported that China had the highest number of players at about a quarter (24.2%), with the United States coming in second at nearly 19% (18.5%). Germany followed closely behind with around 7.2%, and Poland accounted for approximately 3% (2.9%) of the total player base.
