Due to the chilly weather in Washington, D.C., the politicians may have to warm up their inaugural speeches.
On January 20 during the Presidential Inauguration, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pass their duties to President-Elect Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. At this time, Washington D.C., the U.S. capital, is battling extreme winter temperatures.
Indeed, the cold has become so intense that the flagpoles for the White House have turned rigid with ice, preventing the flags that were lowered in tribute after the demise of former President Jimmy Carter from being hoisted back up to their full mast until late in the day.
According to an article by Olivia Beavers published in the Wall Street Journal on X, it was previously stated by Speaker Mike Johnson that the U.S. flags would be raised to full staff for Inauguration Day; however, there seems to be a problem with the operation: the cords are frozen, as confirmed by a source within Johnson’s office.
However, it’s not just that the cold weather impacted the January 20th events; instead, due to the cold temperatures, the Swearing-In ceremony was shifted from the lawn of the U.S. Capitol building to the Capitol Rotunda this time.
Trump announced on January 17th that he will deliver his Inauguration Address, along with prayers and other speeches, from the Rotunda of the United States Capitol, similar to what Ronald Reagan did in 1985. This choice is also due to the extremely cold weather conditions.
He emphasized, “I’m averse to anyone experiencing pain or injury in any shape or form.” He continued, “The circumstances are hazardous not just for the multitude of law enforcement officials, first responders, police dogs, and even horses, but also for the hundreds of thousands of supporters who will be present for extended periods on the 20th.
If all goes as anticipated, the vast bulk of the inauguration day events will unfold as scheduled. Noteworthy performances on this day will include opera singer Christopher Macchio singing the national anthem, Lee Greenwood and Carrie Underwood joining forces to perform “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
She expressed her gratitude for being asked to perform at the Inauguration, considering it an honor to be a tiny piece of such a significant moment in history,” she told TopMob News on January 13. “She feels deeply humbled by the opportunity to contribute, especially during a time when we all need to unite in the spirit of unity and look ahead towards the future.

The decision significantly reduces the number of individuals allowed to witness the event in person. Although the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has approved those with tickets for viewing the event from the Presidential Platform, as well as members of Congress, to participate in the indoor ceremony, it advises most ticket holders to seek alternative indoor venues instead.
Regarding the Presidential Parade, Trump posted on Truth Social: “On Monday, we’ll be opening Capital One Arena for a live viewing of this momentous occasion and to hold the Presidential Parade. After my swearing-in, I plan to join the crowd at Capital One Arena.
In other words, most inauguration day activities will go on as scheduled, with operatic tenor Christopher Macchio singing the national anthem, Lee Greenwood and Carrie Underwood joining forces to sing “America the Beautiful,” accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

On Inauguration Day, January 20th, 2025, I had the honor to attend a service at St. John’s Church in Washington D.C., alongside my beloved mother, Melania, who was elegantly attired in a coat by American designer Adam Lippes, and my esteemed father, President-elect Donald Trump. It was a profound moment of unity and celebration as part of the inauguration festivities.
Incoming first daughter Ivanka Trump also put on her Monday best for the church services.
As they welcomed the Trumps, President Joe Biden expressed, “It’s great to be back,” in the halls of the White House.
At the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and her partner Doug Emhoff were present to greet Vice President-elect JD Vance and his spouse Usha Vance upon their arrival.

As a lifestyle expert, I would say: Recently, I had the pleasure of joining my stepmother Ivana Trump’s children – Ivanka, Donald Junior, and Eric – along with their spouses, particularly Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner. It was a delightful gathering that brought together our family’s unique blend of personalities and experiences.
