Full House’s Jodie Sweetin And Andrea Barber Weighed In On Doing Another Spinoff, And They Made A Good Point About The ‘Challenge’ Of Making It

The popular sitcom “Full House” initially aired on ABC in 1987 and continues to be a beloved show for many viewers, often recognized as one of the greatest sitcoms ever produced. You can catch it through reruns, streaming with a Max subscription, or watching the Netflix reboot. The Tanner family will always be considered one of television’s finest families. As for whether another “Full House” series might be produced in the future, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber have shared their thoughts on the matter, offering some compelling arguments.

The sitcom “Full House” spanned eight seasons, wrapping up in 1995. Later, its extended family returned in “Fuller House,” which streamed on Netflix for five seasons from 2016 to 2020. Despite the original series not requiring a revival, Netflix still opted to produce one. Discussions about another potential show have arisen, with actress Sweetin (who played Stephanie) even proposing a spinoff reminiscent of “The Golden Girls.

They, the actress known as Kimmy, and her co-host on their podcast named “How Rude, Tanneritos!”, addressed the possibility of another show by responding to a fan’s inquiry about their serious discussions regarding a potential “Fullest House” revival. When asked to comment, Barber kept it brief with a straightforward reply: “Very serious talks.

Never say never.

Sweetin concurred with her fellow host’s response, yet added additional insights. She pointed out that it might be premature to produce another show at this time, given that “Fuller House” concluded just five years ago and the original “Full House” ended over 20 years prior. However, she has pondered on a suitable approach for another series, and her preferred concept remains the one based on “The Golden Girls”.

We require a bit more time to proceed. It’s still too early, but I’d definitely be on board for another go at it. If we could revisit this in perhaps around 15 years or so, I think that would be perfect. The audience who watched Fuller House will then be around their 20s with families of their own. This way, the various generations would have progressed enough to create a more mature, Golden Girls-style humor centered around three characters.

The barber elaborated on the difficulties involved in quickly producing another spinoff of ‘Full House’, and it’s understandable why this might be the case. Even though replicating the format of ‘Full House’ and ‘Fuller House’ could be entertaining, there are limitations to what can be created and characters that fans may genuinely want to follow. As a result, the concept of ‘The Golden Girls’ was proposed as an alternative.

The predicament arises as sticking to the format implies centering Fullest House around our children. However, I believe that, similar to the original Full House audience, they are more interested in the original characters instead.

It’s clear that the children in Fuller House were intriguing, and watching DJ, Kimmy as moms, and Stephanie as an aunt (later a mother) was enjoyable. However, what truly made Fuller House successful and worthy of existence was its focus on the original characters that viewers grew up with.

It’s not that longtime Tanner fans don’t care about the children on Fuller House, but rather, they have a strong affinity for the original characters. And Sweetin believes she has found an ideal setting to bring those characters back:

Yeah, they would want to see us in the retirement home.

Sweetin expressed that she envisions the characters as senior citizens, and they reunite, remaining true to their original selves. Barber mentioned that Stephanie, Kimmy, and DJ reside together in the same retirement home. Frankly, I’m quite enthusiastic about it. Admittedly, a new take on Full House without Bob Saget, who passed away in 2022, would be challenging. However, a spin-off titled The Fullest House, set in a retirement community, seems fitting and appealing.
