As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard fan of the post-apocalyptic world created by George Miller, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” on August 16th. Having grown up with the original Mad Max trilogy and being utterly captivated by Furiosa in Fury Road, this prequel promises to be an exhilarating journey that I simply can’t miss.
Over nine years since audiences were first introduced to Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road”, we delved deeper into her past in the much-awaited blockbuster of the year, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”. The buzz around this movie has been justified, as it currently boasts a 90% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Whether you’ve already seen it in theaters or are eager to experience the story for the first time, Max has announced that “Furiosa” will be available on their service starting this month. Fans can look forward to watching “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” when it premieres on August 16th on Max.
Over a decade before the chaos depicted in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the story of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” unfolds. It delves into the past of Furiosa, who was abducted from her tranquil village, the Green Place of Many Mothers, by the deceitful Warlord Dementus and his motorcycle gang. As Dementus and Immortan Joe engage in a power struggle over the barren landscape, Furiosa navigates each obstacle that comes her way as she plots revenge against her captors on her journey back home.
Similar to the impact of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Mad Max: Furiosa” left audiences spellbound with its spectacular stunts and narrative prowess, sparking curiosity about other parts of the series. While “Furiosa” was a significantly pricier production than “Fury Road,” its earnings at the global box office were commendable but not as colossal as some had anticipated. Director George Miller has been brainstorming ways to expand the franchise, one idea being “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” which would’ve centered around Max leading up to the events of “Fury Road.” If “Furiosa” performs well on home video releases, it could potentially pave the way for “The Wasteland” to materialize.
Earlier this year, Miller teased what he was hoping to accomplish with Wasteland.
The filmmaker explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the movie has plenty of action, yet it’s more than just an action-packed flick; it’s also a saga spanning an entire year. In contrast, Fury Road was filmed over three days and two nights, with much of the first, some part of the second, and most of the third act taking place in real time – quite unlike Fury Road or The Wasteland. As for The Wasteland, plans are still up in the air, but the filmmaker is eager to gauge the response to Furiosa before deciding on its future.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits Max on August 16th.
