Developers AQURIA and publisher FuRyu have unveiled the Role-Playing Game titled “VARLET”, which is set in a school environment. This game will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and both Steam and Epic Games Store for PC users. The global release date has been scheduled for August 28.

VARLET capitalizes on Furuyu’s expertise in creating engrossing, narrative-focused games, and invites players to delve into the complexities of their inner selves while navigating treacherous high school corridors.
Step into the innovative environment of Kousei Academy, home to the pioneering cross-reality, virtual reality network named “Johari.” This advanced system serves various purposes from providing essential data and facilitating transactions, to functioning as a social platform for networking and messaging. The widespread use of Johari has sparked a notable rise in students’ craving for validation and attention among their peers. Subsequently, whispers of an eerie urban myth emerge – users could vanish into ominous “Glitches” if their longings for approval and recognition escalate excessively. The chilling twist is that monstrous entities supposedly lurk within these Glitches, replacing the vanished users in the real world, leaving others oblivious to the swap.
The main character uncovers that the city myth isn’t just a tale, but reality, as some students have been transformed into monsters. This calls for action, and since they are part of the Student Support Services (SSS), a group tasked with resolving the academy’s issues, they must help their peers, foster friendships, and battle to shield the school from an approaching catastrophe. Yet, managing these relationships isn’t without complications; developing overly close ties with several individuals could result in unforeseen repercussions.
At the heart of VARLET lies its adaptive Triad Stats system, which molds character development according to player decisions. This system comprises six unique attributes that are categorized under either Light or Dark Triad characteristics, affecting dialogue choices and passive combat abilities. The attributes related to the Light Triad prioritize morality, empathy, and selflessness, while those linked to the Dark Triad lean towards manipulation, callousness, and self-importance. Through their actions, players will uncover their true essence, shaping them into either a benevolent leader who inspires and strengthens allies in combat or a tyrant who wields immense power, sometimes at the expense of personal wellbeing.
