As a long-time fan of the Final Fantasy series, I’m excited to see Square Enix embracing a more inclusive platform strategy. I remember the struggle back in the days when we had to wait for console exclusivity to play our favorite games. Now, with the confirmation that future titles will be released simultaneously on various platforms, I can finally enjoy my Final Fantasy adventures without worrying about missing out due to hardware limitations.
Following disappointing sales figures for both “Final Fantasy 16” and “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” Square Enix has announced that they are shifting their focus away from a console-centric release strategy, aiming instead to launch more games across multiple platforms in order to boost revenue. In an interview with the Japanese outlet 4Gamer, Naoki Yoshida – director and producer of “Final Fantasy 14,” as well as producer for “Final Fantasy 16” – has confirmed this strategy change.
Yoshida discussed the upcoming role-playing game “Fantasian Neo Dimension,” which Mistwalker developed and Square Enix will publish, where he serves as a producer. He mentioned this game specifically as evidence of Square Enix’s plan to distribute future games on Xbox concurrently.
Absolutely, we encourage you to enjoy the game on various other platforms too,” Yoshida explained through VGC. “For this release, we’ll be making the Xbox Series X/S version available simultaneously as well.
As time goes on, you’ll find that Square Enix games become available on all platforms at the same time. Although this game marks one of our earliest releases in this approach, we invite Xbox gamers to join us in playing it too.
Multiple sources, including leak reports and statements from the developers themselves, suggest that a version of Final Fantasy 16 is being developed for Xbox Series X/S. It’s also been hinted that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may potentially come to Microsoft’s consoles as well, but this has yet to be confirmed.
The previously mentioned “Fantasian Neo Dimension” is set to be released on December 5, available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and personal computers.
