The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise isn’t hesitant about revisiting its most significant tales. To illustrate, the film Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash transported anime enthusiasts back to the original universe, presenting a main character who is the potential successor of the initial anime’s hero and villain, Amuro and Char. Surprisingly, the G Gundam series returned with a fresh sequel, “Master Junior,” focusing on the offspring of the Gundam fighters. Fortunately, we can delve into the new narrative surrounding this character.
Let me address a major query upfront: The upcoming continuation of the popular series G Gundam, which is not an anime, but a novel series instead, centers on Master Asia’s son in a world where Gundam battles have been discontinued. This new series represents the third installment in a saga that was known as: “Mobile Fighter G Gundam Gaiden: The East is Burning,” and it has been developed by the original creator of G Gundam, Imagawa Yasuhiro. Currently, the latest installment has been published in Japan with no confirmed release date for North America as yet; however, details about this much-anticipated sequel have already surfaced online.
G Gundam Anime Sequel When?
Although the upcoming sequel for this story is generating a lot of excitement, it’s still uncertain whether it will make it to the big screen. However, hints have been dropped recently about the Gundam franchise working on multiple anime projects as part of its 45th and soon-to-be 50th anniversary celebrations. It’s possible that one day, we might witness this tale unfold on television screens, produced by Bandai Namco, who has also shared some details about the story of Master Junior.
For twelve years, humanity has lived in fear following the “DG Incident”. To rid the Earth of the toxic “DG Dust”, Gundam fights have been prohibited. One day, Master Junior encounters H, a girl carrying a massive sroban, in Shinjuku City. She is on a mission to find Domon and uncover the location of the hidden treasure, “Oriental Pearl”. This artifact holds the secret fighting style of the invincible Touhou school. Together, they journey to a specific destination in search of Kash.
Gundam Sequels Aren’t Rare
Previously mentioned, Hathaway’s Flash can be considered a sequel to the initial Gundam series, but it’s far from being the only tale that revisits the mech universe. For instance, Gundam Seed Destiny Freedom is not only the largest Gundam film ever produced but also serves as a continuation of the original Gundam Seed series. Similarly, there’s even a sequel to Gundam Wing titled Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop. This one is set much later than the events of the original series (though it’s important to note that this sequel is also a novel).
