G.I. Joe Star Has "No Idea" What Upcoming Transformers Crossover Means for Their Return (Exclusive)

As a long-time fan of both Transformers and G.I. Joe, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news of their upcoming crossover! Having grown up watching these iconic franchises unfold on the big screen, seeing them merge into one epic saga is nothing short of a dream come true.

Last year ended with a hint of an upcoming collaboration between the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts series and the iconic G.I. Joe franchise, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently confirmed that this crossover will be the next installment in the live-action Transformers series. The specifics about how this might impact actors from the G.I. Joe cast, such as Samara Weaving who is currently unaware of the project and unsure if it means Scarlett’s comeback, are still unknown. In the interim, fans can catch Samara Weaving in Azrael, set to premiere in select theaters on September 27th and stream on Shudder starting October 25th.

During an interview with ComicBook to promote the series Azrael, when asked about an upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover, Weaving admitted she had no prior knowledge of it, saying, “Oh, that’s news to me. I don’t know what that entails.” When asked about its potential impact on her schedule, she playfully remarked, “Well, I’ve got plenty of phone calls to make now,” but added with enthusiasm, “Great! Count me in.

The G.I. Joe series produced two live-action movies, released in 2009 and 2013. The character of Snake Eyes, played by Henry Golding, was central to these films, functioning as both a reboot and prequel for the title role. In addition, Samara Weaving portrayed Major Scarlett O’Hara, and the movie ended with a hint that Snake Eyes would be joining the G.I. Joe team in future installments.

The movie titled “Snake Eyes” was among many eagerly awaited productions that encountered difficulties due to the coronavirus outbreak. Originally slated for a release in early 2020, it eventually premiered in July of 2021 instead. Although other significant films had already been shown in cinemas by this time, the cinema environment was drastically different from what it used to be before the pandemic.

A potential issue with Weaving’s participation in the upcoming crossover is that “Snake Eyes” was a prequel, which might result in her character being disconnected from the crossover’s storyline if the timeline doesn’t align properly.

As fans wait for updates on the future of G.I. Joe, they can see Weaving in Azrael.

In a silent world, a secretive, devout group pursues a woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving), who has managed to break free from their captivity. However, they eventually recapture her, intending to sacrifice her to appease an evil lurking in the nearby wilderness. Determined to secure her own liberation and safety, Azrael refuses to give up. This story, born from a tough, unyielding allegory of sacrifice and redemption, unfolds as a captivating, real-time action horror narrative, brought to life by the creative minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.

Keep an eye out for news regarding the Transformers-G.I. Joe collaboration. The movie titled “Azrael” premieres in certain cinemas on September 27th, while it becomes available on Shudder on October 25th.
