Gabe Newell Has Played Through Stalker 2 Four Times While You’ve Been Waiting For Half-Life 3 News

Summary

  • A Half-Life fan emailed Valve co-founder Gabe Newell to ask what games he plays in his spare time.
  • He revealed that he’s currently in the thick of a fourth Stalker 2 playthrough, about to clutch another ending.

It’s uncommon for someone to post their email on the internet and get ordinary messages. Typically, displaying your email online is a regrettable, unfortunate, indefensibly poor choice (mine is in my bio, feel free to contact me). However, for Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, it’s turned out to be an unexpectedly positive experience over the past few years. Casual conversations between him and the community have managed to pierce the company’s veil of secrecy.

User Walrus6444 recently posed a question to Mr. Gaben, inquiring about his leisure activities. To which he replied, “Recently, I’ve been engrossed in a lot of Stalker 2. I anticipate unlocking the fourth ending tomorrow, after which I’ll need to decide what to play next.”

Wait, he got the third ending? How[?] — u/Disastrous-Pick-3357.

There’s A Lot Of History Between Stalker And Half-Life

It’s quite poignant: Gabe is experiencing the long-awaited follow-up of a well-known Eastern European dystopian series, while whispers circulate about Valve possibly doing the same. However, there’s more to Half-Life and GSC Game World than just similarities. The studio, established by 17-year-old Sergey Grigorovich in 1995, initially worked as an unofficial translator for pirated CD and DVD collections in Russia, including games like Half-Life and Dune 2000.

In the early 2000s, as Russia intensified efforts to combat piracy, GSC Game World shifted focus towards legitimate game development. Their games Cossacks: European Wars and Codename: Outbreak served as stepping stones leading up to their successful release of Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl in 2007.

Inside that gem lies a nod to Half-Life, acknowledging the company’s distinctive origins. Delve into the Wild Territory, and you’ll stumble upon a “Gordon PDA” on a deceased character named “Freeman,” alluding to Black Mesa and the series’ signature crowbar. Stalker 2, however, is subtler. At Rostak, in a contaminated underpass, there’s a skeleton resting beside a red shipping container, with a red crowbar leaning against it near some black eyeglasses.

Could it be possible that “HLX” might subtly acknowledge us, right? Here’s hoping that the whispers, speculations, and even a hint dropped by Mike Shapiro, the voice actor of G-Man, will prove accurate when we get more information.
