Gabrielle Union isn’t immune to buyer’s remorse.
In Hollywood’s limelight following her role in “Bring It On,” the actress shared that her initial extravagant buy was her first significant indulgence. However, she later labeled this acquisition as “so foolish” in retrospect.
She said during a panel talk at the American Black Film Festival in Miami on June 12, as reported by People, “I remember thinking, ‘I’ve really arrived when I own a Mazda,'” but her father advised, “Don’t rush out to buy a new car. Its value drops the moment you drive it off the showroom floor.
Ignoring her father’s counsel, the 52-year-old woman decided to buy a Mazda Miata sports car. However, she later expressed doubts about her selection of upholstery because of the intense heat in California.
Or even more concisely:
The 52-year-old went against her father’s advice and bought a Mazda Miata, but she later regretted her choice of upholstery due to the scorching California weather.
Let me share some experiences I had with leather car seats here in LA,” she continued. “You know how painful it can be when you accidentally touch hot leather after getting out of the car? Well, I learned that the hard way – it was my initial investment.
Gabrielle added that, as her dad had predicted, “It depreciated the second I drove it off the lot.”
Currently, the actress is passing on her insights to her children, including her daughter Kaavia (who’s 6 and shares this life with husband Dwyane Wade), as well as stepchildren Zaire (23 years old), Zaya (18 years old), Xavier (11 years old), and Dwyane’s nephew Dahveon Morris (also 23). Interestingly, she has mentioned that her parenting style isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach.
She shared with Marie Claire in May that each child receives a unique version of herself because they require different versions. “I wouldn’t express things to Zaya as I do to Zaire,” she explained. “Sometimes I can be gentle and understanding, but there are also times when I need to take on a firm role because the situations call for it.
As for our family life alongside the NBA star, I’ve always made it clear that it’s not just about me – it’s a collaborative endeavor. We’re in this together.
She went on to say, ‘I deeply depend on our community, and I take great pride in that fact.’ In addition to having our long-term nanny, we’ve had male caregivers, family members, aunts, tutors, teachers, and therapists. We’re all working together to meet our needs.

2019 marked the last game of Dwyane Wade’s NBA career, which he celebrated with his wife Gabrielle Union and their daughter Kaavia Wade. On this special day, he was also joined by his nephew Dahveon Morris, children Zaire Wade, Zaya Wade (from his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches), and son Xavier Wade (with ex Aja Metoyer).
In a simpler way: In 2019, during the final game of Dwyane Wade’s career in the NBA, he was accompanied by his wife Gabrielle Union, their daughter Kaavia, nephew Dahveon Morris, children Zaire and Zaya (from a previous marriage), and son Xavier (with another ex-partner).
On the spooktacular Halloween of 2023, Gabrielle and Dwyane demonstrated a perfect pairing, much like peanut butter complementing jelly. Meanwhile, our little princess, Kaavia, enchanted everyone in her Cinderella costume.
The Bring It On actress snapped silly selfies with Kaavia on Mother’s Day 2023.
In an easy-to-understand manner, Zaire, Dwyane’s eldest son, titled a 2022 photograph showing his father with the Salt Lake City Stars jersey: “Create an enduring impact.
In January 2023, Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siovaughn Funches took their daughter Zaya to her school’s winter formal. The NBA legend is the one who shares Zaya with her.
In their Instagram post, the couple expressed that it’s essential to stand together during life’s major events. They shared that with friends and family around, even in times of stress, apprehension, and fear, they feel confident and strong. No matter what obstacles come their way, they are fully committed and ready.
In 2020, Gabrielle posted on Instagram saying, “Kaavia James’ mama has hair just like yours,” which is a fun way of pointing out that they both have similar natural curls. After taking her braids out, she looked at Kaavia and said, “Now mom and baby are both rocking their natural curls.
At the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, the couple’s child, Kaavia, gracefully stepped onto the award stage for the first time, and it turned out she was an absolute pro!
Following the family’s Thanksgiving celebration, Dwyane decided to express his disapproval on Twitter towards some online critics who made less than pleasant remarks.
He posted online: “Some negative comments about my family picture after Thanksgiving have popped up on social media. I understand there’s ignorance in the world, so it’s expected. However, I’m responsible for guiding my family, and we’ll keep being ourselves, with our heads held high, love, pride, and smiles.
Gabrielle rang in her 50th birthday in 2022 with snuggles from Dwyane and Kaavia.
The couple are all smiles as they celebrate Zaya’s 16th birthday in May 2023.
As Halloween 2019 approached, Gabrielle and Dwyane were ready with the perfect costumes for their little one.
Or, more casually:
When it came to Halloween 2019, Gabrielle and Dwyane had a killer costume idea for their baby girl.
However, let me tell you something else exciting! Alongside this transformation, the elated parents embraced a fresh theme together with their child, Zaya.
Dwyane praised Zaya amid criticism from online trolls.
He expressed on the “All the Smoke” podcast in 2019 that his 12-year-old possesses more strength and courage than he does. He emphasized that there’s much to learn from children, and in his household, discussions revolve around ensuring each parent, him and his wife, recognizes their kids. They also focus on helping their children understand the potency of their own voices.
Following Gabrielle’s dismissal from America’s Got Talent in 2019, Dwyane unwaveringly supported his wife. On Twitter, he expressed this sentiment by saying, “Men lie, Women lie, numbers don’t,” after the news was announced. Over the past year, he mentioned that many people have told him that Gabrielle is the primary reason they began watching America’s Got Talent, or that they appreciate her insight and sincerity on the show.
