Update [Thu, June 5, 2025, 4:30 PM]: The tallying of your votes is complete, and a victor has emerged from our Game of the Month contest in May 2025.
On this occasion, it seems that DOOM: The Dark Ages has triumphed. While it didn’t entirely rule the popular vote, it maintained a substantial advantage over its nearest competitors.
I’m excited to share with you, as a fellow fan, that over 800 votes were cast in our recent poll we published earlier this week on Push Square. Here are the top five PS5 titles of May 2025, as chosen by our wonderful readers:
1. Ratchet & Clank: Galactic Quest
2. Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
3. God of War: Ragnarok – The Lost Realms
4. Gran Turismo 7: Ultimate Edition
5. Ghostwire Tokyo: Akumu-tachi no Yukue
Let’s keep gaming and share our thoughts on these fantastic titles!
- DOOM: The Dark Ages – 262 votes (33%)
- Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time – 136 votes (17%)
- Elden Ring Nightreign – 116 votes (15%)
- The Precinct – 69 votes (9%)
- The Midnight Walk – 45 votes (6%)
Choosing a fresh installment of DOOM was bound to be a hit, given its reputation. Yet, the game’s thrill is undeniably amplified by id Software’s knack for designing pulse-pounding action. There’s simply no equivalent to the current DOOM series available in the market.
In our comprehensive DOOM: The Dark Ages PS5 review, we rated the release a very good 8 out of 10. To put it simply, when it comes to FPS action, not many can rival id Software’s prowess. After a bit of getting used to, you will uncover yet another exceptional first-person shooter that delivers ferocious gameplay in the dark ages.
Bravo, Doom Slayer, for your well-earned victory! Here’s hoping you get some respite from battling those demonic legions, as your hard work has finally paid off with a well-deserved reward.
In the realm of PlayStation, May turned out to be quite an active month, even though it didn’t feature the big-name releases like April did. However, a diverse array of fresh titles ensured we stayed engaged and alert throughout the month.
Among the notable titles, it seems that DOOM: The Dark Ages stood out prominently. Disregarding concerns about its market performance, this intense first-person shooter garnered positive reviews, and the majority of players appeared to thoroughly enjoy, as the pun suggests, their gaming experience with it.
As we delve into the subject of high-speed action, it would be foolish to overlook Elden Ring Nightreign, released towards the end of the month by FromSoftware. Despite being a new title, the anticipation around it is significant, yet questions linger about its multiplayer aspect and how it may impact its standing in this specific contest.
How about considering these lesser-known titles instead: “Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time” or “RoadCraft”. While they might not be familiar to many, they have received generally favorable reviews from critics.
Lastly, let’s not overlook the smaller titles that held their own in May. For us, the captivating and dynamic police simulation game, The Precinct, truly shone, as did an incredibly enjoyable title that brought pure joy.
Of all the PS5 games released in May 2025, which one did you particularly enjoy the most? As usual, your input is essential in selecting our featured Game of the Month!
Just so we’re all on the same page, these are the winners for each month of the year so far:
