Game of the Year: #10 – Persona 3 Reload

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Persona 3 Reload has truly impressed me. Having played the original back in 2006, I can attest to its timeless appeal and the remarkable job Atlus has done with this remake.

Over the past few years, there has been a surge in high-quality reimaginings of timeless video games, and we believe that Persona 3 Reload stands out as one of the finest among them.

The re-release of the classic 2006 RPG for PlayStation 2, simply put, is exceptional in every aspect. From the polished artistic design to the numerous mechanical enhancements under the surface, Reload serves as a testament to the original’s greatness and nearly flawlessly refreshes its gameplay dynamics.

The reimagined version generally follows the narrative sequence of Persona 3, lacking the intricate systemic complexity and interwoven elements found in the exceptional Persona 5 Royal. However, it’s worth noting that the simplified design of Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight adds to its appeal.

Refreshing the game, Reload enriches the narrative of Persona 3 by deepening the relationships between party members, making its captivating characters even more complex. It refines the combat system in turn-based battles, incorporating aspects from Persona 5 Royal to make gameplay more immersive and strategic. Overall, it brings numerous enhancements to the game.

Everything comes together beautifully, thanks to breathtaking visuals that Unreal Engine 5 provides to Reload, giving it a stunningly sharp aesthetic throughout its artistic pursuits. This remake stands out as one of the most visually harmonious and meticulously crafted we’ve encountered.

Additionally, the revamped soundtrack is worth noting as well. It has been skillfully adjusted – and in some cases, recomposed – to complement the somber, cool-toned ambiance of the remake.

Persona 3 Reload represents a stunning revival of a beloved PlayStation 2 game, and it may just be the cleanest and finest release that Atlus has ever produced.
