Summary
- George R.R. Martin has revealed there is “some talk” of an Elden Ring movie.
- He’s not sure how much he could be involved in the project given his ongoing work on The Winds of Winter.
- FromSoftware is also open to an adaptation if it can find the right partner.
George R.R. Martin has once again hinted at the possibility of an Elden Ring movie. Martin contributed to creating the universe of Elden Ring, developing a basic timeline that was expanded upon by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team. It’s unclear which elements of Elden Ring’s storyline Martin is responsible for, as collaborative efforts on such a large scale often make it challenging to attribute credit solely to one individual for any single aspect of the work.
In reply to a query from IGN regarding Elden Ring, Martin stated, “I can’t reveal much, but there are whispers about turning Elden Ring into a film.” George R.R. Martin added, “Time will tell if this project materializes and the extent of my participation in it, I’m unsure. As I’ve been delaying my latest book for a few years now, that also restricts the number of tasks I can handle.
The Lands Between on the Big Screen

Martin recently mentioned that he’s behind schedule with The Winds of Winter, the upcoming sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. This series was turned into television by HBO as A Game of Thrones. The fifth book, A Dance With Dragons, came out in 2011. In December, he admitted to the long wait between instalments, saying “Regrettably, I’m 13 years late. Every day it seems I ask myself ‘How could I be 13 years late?’ But somehow, it just happens one day at a time.
As a gamer, I’ve always been excited about the potential of Elden Ring being adapted into a movie. However, the chatter in Hollywood might not necessarily be anything concrete just yet. Miyazaki has expressed his openness towards such an endeavor, but FromSoftware seems hesitant to take on a direct role in the project. In his own words, he told The Guardian that while he’s open to other interpretations or adaptations of Elden Ring, including a movie, he doesn’t think they have the expertise to create something in another medium. He emphasized that a strong partner would be crucial, and trust and agreement on the project’s goals would need to be established. But rest assured, there’s definitely interest from both sides.
If the Elden Ring character, Starscourge Radan, were to be cast, I couldn’t imagine anyone more suitable than Chris Pratt for the role.
