George R.R. Martin shared some intriguing updates on the upcoming prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight in a blog post on Tuesday. He disclosed that filming has wrapped up, and it is set to air later in the year – possibly during fall. What might have come as a shock to many, Martin hinted at the show being renewed already, with production for Season 2 reportedly underway. The author appears pleased with the final product and looks forward to fans’ reactions. However, some enthusiasts are apprehensive because this is an adaptation of an incomplete novella series, similar to Game of Thrones.
Martin stated that filming for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” wrapped up several months prior, transitioning directly into post-production. He’s had the opportunity to watch all six episodes (the last two in rough cuts), and he adored them. His admiration was particularly directed towards the cast, crew, and especially the writers who transformed his novella into a screenplay.
Martin wrote: “It’s as accurate an adaptation as a reasonable person like myself could expect, and trust me, I’m very reasonable about this.” Later in his post, he mentioned that “The series is set to premiere later this year, though the exact date remains unknown. It might be in the fall. I truly hope you’ll enjoy the show just as much as I do. In the meantime, we’ll be diving into The Sworn Sword, the second story of Dunk & Egg.
It seems like we’re dealing with a renewal, but HBO hasn’t officially confirmed it yet. As Martin clarified, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is an adaptation from his novella series, “The Tales of Dunk and Egg.” These stories serve as prequels, taking place approximately 90 years before “A Game of Thrones,” focusing on the adventures of a wandering knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, who is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen.
So far, Martin has published three novellas and mentioned intentions to write as many as nine more. In a recent blog post, he hinted at the next one, stating “Once I complete ‘The Winds of Winter,’ I’ll have to dive into ‘The Village Hero,'” referring to the upcoming installment in the series. This news might be frustrating for fans eagerly awaiting the final book in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire,’ titled ‘A Dream of Spring.’
The TV series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is planned to air sometime this year, and as per George R.R. Martin’s announcement, it will likely debut during the fall season. The compilation of these three novellas can be found in a book bearing the same title, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” which is currently available for purchase in print, digital, and audio formats, alongside other works by George R.R. Martin.
