As a weary gamer reflecting on the finale of “Thrones”, I reckon the issue might be that we were all so drained, there was no more steam left to keep going. This is why some folks thought it ended too quickly, and I can see their point. However, I’m not sure there was any other way out. Just look at those pictures of me during the final season; I looked worn-out, depleted. Frankly, I didn’t have another season left in me.
It’s clear that exhaustion was evident during the last promotional tours for Game of Thrones Season 8. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, became a viral topic due to her unease on red carpets when asked about the series finale; since then, numerous actors from the show have expressed their dissatisfaction with the final season. Even Conleth Hill, who portrayed Varys, shared similar sentiments, suggesting that Season 8 was hastily produced.
Last year, Hill shared with The Times that for the most recent two seasons, he had been feeling dissatisfied despite being quite content before. He explained, “I simply felt frustrated because Varys wasn’t the omniscient character he once was in the last couple of series. I believe the writers intended to take the story in one direction and HBO studio wanted another. I felt that final season moved too quickly. Afterwards, I was heartbroken but now I’ve come to terms with it.”
In an attempt to rejoin the Game of Thrones saga, Kit Harington had been connected to a spin-off show focusing on Jon Snow’s storyline following the conclusion of the initial series. Regrettably, HBO decided not to proceed with this project during its early stages of production.
In the interview, Harington expressed that for a couple of years, they had been working on refining it but it simply didn’t ignite our passion enough. Eventually, he stepped back and admitted that if they continued to develop it further, they could potentially create something subpar, which is something we all strive to avoid.
