Game of Thrones Star Kit Harington Doesn't Think He'll "Ever" Watch House of the Dragon

As a long-time fan who has followed Jon Snow’s journey since the very beginning, I can understand Kit Harington’s decision not to watch House of the Dragon. After all, he lived and breathed that world for a decade, and it’s only natural that he might need some time away from it. It’s like going on a epic adventure with your best friends, and then having to sit on the sidelines while they continue their journey without you.

Previously involved individuals in the “Game of Thrones” ensemble have shown diverse responses towards the spin-off show “House of the Dragon,” following the Season 2 finale’s broadcast this week. One such person is Kit Harington, who portrayed Jon Snow in all eight seasons, and he has expressed that he doesn’t envision himself ever watching the prequel series due to its connection to a significant part of his life spanning over a decade. Given the rumors and speculations about his possible return as Jon Snow for another series, it seems plausible that Harington might find it challenging to experience the fantasy realm just like regular viewers do.

As someone who spent a significant chunk of my life immersed in the world of Westeros, I find it hard to imagine revisiting “Game of Thrones” anytime soon. The emotional and physical toll that filming for the show took on me is something I’m still recovering from. Don’t get me wrong, I respect and admire the incredible success that the series has achieved, and I wish nothing but the best for my fellow cast members and the creators of this fantastic show. However, the raw, unfiltered emotions and intense scenes that were a regular part of my daily life while filming have left an indelible mark on me. Therefore, it’s unlikely that I’ll ever be able to watch “Game of Thrones” again for quite some time, if at all.

Regardless of their varying links to the highly acclaimed HBO show “Game of Thrones”, Kit Harington stands out as one of the more open personalities discussing the psychological impact the series had on him personally. Even though the George R.R. Martin adaptation ended five years back, Harington continues to grapple with separating himself from that experience.

The actor reflected, “After several years, I’m not entirely certain if it’s completely behind me. Nevertheless, here I am.” He further explained his decision to rejoin HBO for the series ‘Industry’, stating, “I believe the wait was worthwhile, and now seemed like the perfect moment. It was a desire to delve into a comprehensive character journey instead of just appearing in an episode or two, or a movie arc. I wanted to explore a TV character arc once more.”

After the final episode of Game of Thrones, there was a strong expectation that the story could grow significantly. However, the coronavirus pandemic and recent writers’ and actors’ strikes have impacted these expansion plans. One spin-off even received a pilot, but HBO decided against turning it into a series. There are constant reports about new projects either progressing or facing delays.

Over the past few years, both Harington and Martin have provided more underwhelming news than exciting tidbits regarding the Jon Snow spin-off series.

Stay tuned for updates on the future of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.
