Game of Thrones Star Leads BBC’s New Crime Drama Virdee – Release Date Revealed!

It’s officially set that BBC One’s upcoming crime drama, Virdee, will hit screens soon. This series, featuring Staz Nair from Game of Thrones, is an adaptation of the popular books penned by AA Dhand.

The six-part television show, featuring Aysha Kala (“Criminal Record”), Vikash Bhai (“Crossfire”), Kulvinder Ghir (“Foundation”), Sudha Bhuchar (“Expats”), Elizabeth Berrington (“Good Omens”) and Danyal Ismail (“All the Lights Still Burning”), is set to debut in February, having been initially announced back in August 2023.

The premiere of the first episode is set for Monday, 10th February, airing at 9 PM exclusively on BBC One. On the very same day, the entire season will be accessible on BBC iPlayer.

The upcoming show, entirely based and produced in Bradford, will contribute to the city’s festivities as it becomes the City of Culture in 2025.

Initially, the lead character in the show was intended to be portrayed by Sacha Dhawan from Doctor Who, but unfortunately, his busy schedule forced him to withdraw from the project.

Virdee’s plotline follows the tale of Detective Harry Virdee, a devoted police officer who has become alienated from his Sikh relatives due to his marriage to Saima, a woman of the Islamic faith.

The summary proceeds: “Tension is growing beneath the surface in this city, as law enforcement struggles to contain escalating feuds among criminal gangs. These conflicts are now spreading onto the streets of Bradford.

When a young card dealer is brutally killed, Harry finds himself torn between his responsibility to uphold justice and his associations with figures in the criminal underworld.

“With his personal life in chaos, he must hunt down whoever is targeting those around him.

As the city is under siege by the murderer, Harry comes to understand that he will require the aid of his brother-in-law Riaz, a powerful drug lord who heads the most prominent cartel within the county.

As a cinephile, I find myself compelled to share my thoughts on this gripping tale of allegiance and sacrifice. Our protagonist, Harry, finds himself caught in an unyielding bond that threatens the very fabric of his existence and the city he cherishes. Faced with an agonizing decision, he must choose between safeguarding his family or saving the metropolis they call home. Regrettably, it seems that this selfless hero cannot accomplish both feats simultaneously.
