One such fan, Peter Dinklage who starred in the show, found satisfaction with the way the story concluded, although some members of the cast and crew have expressed their disappointments with the ending since then. However, it’s worth noting that this is just Dinklage’s personal perspective, and everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on the matter.
In a conversation with Rolling Stone, Dinklage shared his enthusiasm for the series finale. He acknowledged that not everyone might share his viewpoint, and suggested a hypothetical scenario where he might say, “I hated it. The whole last season was horrible,” just to provoke a contrast. However, he found expressing his approval of the finale more pleasant, which was indeed his genuine sentiment. Dinklage added that he can’t dictate others’ opinions, and this diversity in thoughts is what makes their work exciting. People can debate, discuss, and even argue about it – a testament to doing something right, he believes, as it mirrors an old Irish perspective: there’s something off if everything’s perfect.
Recently, Dinklage has once again demonstrated his backing for the series, echoing his 2021 sentiments that fans felt disappointed not just because any conclusion inevitably brings some negative emotions, but more specifically due to the numerous heartrending revelations that accompanied the show’s finale.
In a conversation with The New York Times, Dinklage expressed that the uproar over the ending was likely due to fans being upset because we ended our series, leaving them without something to watch on Sundays. Since they desired more content, their reaction was a backlash.
He playfully remarked, “The storyline had the attractive white characters departing towards the sunset together. Incidentally, it’s a work of imagination. There are dragons in it, so let’s move on… However, the series challenges your expectations, and that’s what I adore about it. Yes, it was titled Game of Thrones, but surprisingly, when people approached me, the conversation always revolved around ‘Who will be on the throne?’ I can’t comprehend why they focused on that aspect because the show was so much more than that.
Regardless of differing opinions about the finale’s revelations, the overall excitement for the series, as demonstrated by the success of ‘House of the Dragon’, remains robust. Moreover, several other spin-offs based on ‘Game of Thrones’ are actively being developed at this time.
