As a gamer with a soft spot for epic narratives and intricate characters, I must admit that the demise of Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones left me feeling a tad disheartened. Natalie Dormer’s portrayal of the resilient and intelligent Tyrell was one of the series’ highlights, and her journey through the political landscape of Westeros was captivating to watch.
As a devoted fan, I can tell you that one of the actors from Game of Thrones, the phenomenal Natalie Dormer who portrayed Margaery Tyrell, expressed feelings of frustration over her character’s untimely end in the show. This HBO Original series was well-known for its high death toll and brutal violence, and the Season 6 finale, titled “The Winds of Winter,” was no exception, as several main characters met their demise.
Collider interviewed Natalie Dormer during their Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff for the film “The Wasp”. The conversation steered towards Margaery Tyrell’s demise, which occurred while Cersei was being tried in the Great Sept. Interestingly, neither Cersei nor Tommen appeared for the trial, as it was revealed that Cersei had secretly ignited wildfire beneath the building. Dormer confessed to having mixed emotions about her character’s passing, but a wise counsel from a mentor helped assuage her worries.
Natalie Dormer recounts the abuse Margaery Tyrell endured on Game of Thrones
In her own words, “I felt annoyed when she chose that path, but afterward, it appeared she was upset in the sequence,” Dormer explained. “An experienced actor once advised me, ‘Don’t get mixed up. If you’re experiencing an emotion, make sure it’s not just your character feeling it, and it’s not unintentionally affecting you.’ This is because, if you genuinely act something out, your body won’t discern the difference, especially when filming continuously over a shoot. Consequently, that emotion might inadvertently influence you.
Throughout her numerous seasons on “Game of Thrones”, Margaery Tyrell endured much cruelty. Prior to her union with Tommen, she was betrothed to the ruthless Joffrey Baratheon, a king known for his brutality. Actress Natalie Dormer reflected that Margaery deserved a kinder destiny given the hardships she had to bear.
Indeed, she deserved a better situation. I yearned for something greater for her, yet in that instant, she was overwhelmed with the Sparrow, specifically Jonathan [Pryce], which played a role. She expressed this frustration, and so it’s part of the equation. When you realize you need someone to listen a bit more, you know you’re on the right track. In the end, she was proven right. It may have been just a few words, but they carried the weight. She found validation, and in that moment, I felt I could release her burden because she had spoken up, and I thought to myself, “She spoke, man.
Fans of “Game of Thrones” have an opportunity to revisit all eight series on HBO. Additionally, they can also watch the initial two seasons of the prequel series, titled “House of the Dragon“.
