GameCube Games on Nintendo Switch 2 Come With Surprise for Old-School Fans

Fans of classic Nintendo GameCube games are in for a delightful surprise: Nintendo is incorporating these beloved titles into the Nintendo Switch Online service. As anticipated, this move coincides with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 this summer. However, similar to N64 games, access to GameCube games will only be available through the Expansion Pack tier of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

In other words, for those who are nostalgic about GameCube games, the Nintendo Switch 2 will offer a replica of the original GameCube controller and an optional CRT filter. This filter allows players to experience the games as they did in the early 2000s by mimicking the look of games on old CRT TVs. However, it is important to note that this filter needs to be activated manually as it won’t be enabled by default.

A fresh feature is coming to Nintendo Switch Online, debuting together with the arrival of GameCube games. Interestingly, this feature isn’t exclusive to GameCube games; it will also be applicable to N64 games. However, it’s important to note that this particular filter option will only be accessible on the Nintendo Switch 2, not on the current version. As for what the feature looks like in practice, we don’t have any details yet as Nintendo hasn’t demonstrated it. In fact, they’ve only confirmed its existence without providing many additional details.

The following is a list of GameCube games that have been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which allows users to play with a CRT filter. These games are: F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur II, Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, and Super Mario Sunshine. However, only F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur II will be playable at the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th.
