Gargoyles Fans: Meet Demona’s Heartbreaking Daughter Angelika!

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my beloved comic book universe, Gargoyles, is set to surprise us this spring with a fresh collaboration between Dynamite Entertainment and Disney! For those who have enjoyed re-living the animated series on Disney+, or for newcomers like myself, there’s been an ongoing saga thanks to the brilliant comics from Dynamite.

May marks a significant leap in this timeless tale with “Gargoyles: Demona.” This epic event series dives into five pivotal moments in Demona’s past, spanning millennia while our beloved Manhattan Clan remained frozen as statues. What makes this even more intriguing is the introduction of Angelika, a mysterious, long-forgotten daughter of Demona whom fans will get to meet for the first time!

This exciting development promises to add depth and richness to our understanding of one of Gargoyles’ most complex characters. I, for one, can hardly wait to delve into this captivating storyline!

The series “Gargoyles: Demona” is led by Frank Paur, a seasoned animator and director who previously worked on the original show as co-showrunner alongside Greg Weisman. Known for his work in shows like “X-Men: Evolution” and “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”, this will mark Paur’s debut in mainstream comic book writing. The concept originated from an idea pitched by Paur, which he developed with Greg Weisman, Nate Cosby, Robby Bevard (returning colorist from the SLG era), and teams at Dynamite and Disney.

Fans of the Gargoyles animated series already know Angela, Goliath’s and Demona’s daughter. However, a new character named Angelika is set to appear in Gargoyles: Demona, who unlike her mother, does not possess immortality. The series explores the complex lives of these two characters at different points in time, weaving together moments of beauty and sorrow. In this storyline, Demona is trapped by time and witnesses her daughter grow older than she will ever be. As the series comes to an end, viewers will have the chance to compare Angelika and Angela, as well as delve into the larger tragedy that has marked Demona’s life.

The preview pages display scenes where Demona clashes with the Gargoyles, along with a peaceful instance shared by Angela and Hudson in their New York residence.

According to writer Greg Weisman, Demona boasts an impressive history spanning a millennium, which is something our main characters lack. This rich background offers numerous possibilities for story development, and as we aim to convey a significant tale, these opportunities are particularly valuable!

The initial problem traces back nearly a thousand years to the period following 994, during what is often referred to as the “Dark Ages.” This was when Demona embarked upon her long-lasting quest for revenge against Canmore, which would span centuries. A sneak peek at the new storyline will be available in Dynamite’s Free Comic Book Day release on May 3rd.

The first major issue can be traced back to just after the year 994 during what we now call the “Dark Ages.” It marked the beginning of Demona’s centuries-long quest for vengeance against Canmore. On May 3rd, you’ll get a glimpse into this new storyline with a prologue in Dynamite’s Free Comic Book Day release.

2023 saw the debut of a fresh “Gargoyles” series by Dynamite, with Greg Weisman teaming up with renowned artist George Kambadais. The initial six issues reintroduce the Manhattan Clan, a family of gargoyles who have renewed their vow to protect humans in contemporary New York City. However, their resolve will be severely tested when sinister forces from around the globe make a move to seize an extremely rare and valuable treasure – an unhatched gargoyle egg!

It appears that a fresh, real-life adaptation of the classic series “Gargoyles” might be under development at Disney+, but as of now, no new information has emerged since the initial news broke in 2023.
