Gavin & Stacey finale is written, James Corden says

As a devoted fan of Gavin & Stacey, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sadness as we approach the airing of the long-awaited Christmas special. The news that co-creator James Corden has completed the script for this farewell episode leaves me feeling both emotional and nostalgic.

I’m thrilled to share that James Corden, the brilliant co-creator of Gavin & Stacey, has announced that the script for the forthcoming Christmas special is finally finished. This news fills me with a sense of deep emotion as I prepare to bid farewell to this beloved sitcom.

Recently, the comedian spoke about the challenging timeline for the upcoming episode, scheduled to film sometime between September and October. To ensure its release on Christmas Day, an efficient production process and swift post-production are necessary.

During that period, he mentioned that some minor modifications and tweaks were required. These changes have since been implemented by him and his collaborator Ruth Jones, albeit with significant effort.

In an interview with Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, Corden shared: “Writing is enjoyable because you have the freedom to let your imagination run wild and unpredictable things occur.”

When you revise content, you encounter numerous practical considerations. For instance, “Perhaps we can’t film that scene, or should we relocate this part instead? Is there a feasible alternative?”

Based on my experience as a production assistant on several film sets, I can understand the pressure of keeping costs low and completing a script within a tight deadline. From my perspective, the past few weeks have been a challenging yet rewarding experience as we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that every line and scene is essential to the story. And yes, it’s been a long journey, but I firmly believe that the end result will be worth it. We poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we finally crossed the finish line yesterday. The sense of accomplishment we feel is indescribable.

In the latest installment, the plot thickens as Nessa (Jones) shockingly proposes to Smithy (Corden) during the blockbuster 2019 Christmas special, leaving their on-and-off relationship status uncertain and setting up an exciting resolution in the next episode.

Before long, fans will discover his answer in a significant farewell episode where all cherished characters from the show will bid their final adieus – with Corden reiterating once more that the series will not return after this point.

“We won’t repeat anything Pam has said or come up with new intriguing stories about Bryn,” he mentioned.

Previously, the ex-Late Night host found it hard to believe and surprising, along with Jones, that they had the option to call it quits and yet their audience continued to show interest.

As a longtime fan of Gavin & Stacey, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming final episode! With its heartwarming storylines and lovable characters brought to life by the brilliant James Corden, Ruth Jones, Joanna Page, Mathew Horne, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, and Larry Lamb, this sitcom has been a staple of my Christmas viewing for years. The thought of seeing them all reunited on screen one last time fills me with nostalgia and joy. I can’t wait to see where their lives have taken them and how they’ll bring warmth and laughter into my home once again this holiday season.

Gavin & Stacey returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day.
