Gavin & Stacey trailer sees Smithy and Nessa get close, and addresses fishing trip

As a long-time devotee of British comedy and a dedicated follower of Gavin & Stacey since its inception, I must say that the release of the first trailer for the Christmas special has sent my heart racing like a nervous teenager on Valentine’s Day! The anticipation has been building for years, and now, with just a few sleeps until Christmas, we finally have a glimpse into what promises to be an unforgettable reunion.

During the finale of Strictly Come Dancing 2024, the initial teaser for the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special was revealed.

On Christmas Day, the highly popular sitcom will make its comeback on our screens, marking what is said to be its last episode ever, bringing us a dose of holiday cheer.

In my perspective as a movie enthusiast, the sequel promises an exhilarating continuation, five years forward from the nail-biting cliffhanger that left us all stunned in 2019’s groundbreaking special. The storyline resumes with a heart-stopping moment where our beloved character Smithy (James Corden) finds himself at the precipice of a life-altering question – a proposal from his on-again, off-again love interest and shared parent, Nessa (Ruth Jones). The anticipation is palpable!

On Saturday evening, December 14th, actress Ruth Jones stepped onto the stage for the Strictly Come Dancing finale, portraying her iconic character Nessa, to explain the terms and conditions to the audience.

Afterward, viewers got a sneak peek at an unexpected Gavin & Stacey teaser that suggested potential developments in the relationship between Smithy and Nessa.

The trailer opens with Stacey (Joanna Page) talking on the phone to her husband Gavin (Matthew Horne) while he’s at work, in a nod to how they met in the early 2000s.

“Oh, I’m absolutely buzzing, I am. A whole weekend away, just me and you!” Stacey says.

Indeed, it’s not just us two, isn’t that right?” Gavin says, as the rest of our cherished group make their entrance.

In the scene, Smithy refers to Gavin as ‘Gaviston’, while the camera shifts to Pam and Mick setting the table for dinner.

In a bright pink outfit, complete with rolled hair, Pam appears busy and hurried, moving quickly from one spot to another. On the other hand, Michael adopts a relaxed pace, casually strolling about.

The situation escalates quickly as Nessa advises her son Neil, affectionately known as Baby, to watch his manners. Meanwhile, Gwen boldly recalls an incident from the past – the contentious fishing trip with Bryn – which she claims came dangerously close to destroying our family.

Will we finally discover what really went down?

Over time, my mood brightens, and I find myself joining in on the fun party activities, savoring delicious holiday drinks, and even shaking a leg in the living room during Pam and Mick’s celebration.

In the latest scenes, Smithy and Nessa appear quite intimate, but has their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship? Only time will tell when you tune in to the holiday special.
