As a die-hard Gavin & Stacey fan who has grown up with this iconic British sitcom, I can hardly contain my excitement for the final ever episode. The cliffhanger that’s been haunting me since the 2019 reunion special feels like a lifelong mystery finally coming to an end.
Gavin & Stacey has completed filming on its final ever episode, the BBC confirmed today.
Without a doubt, I’ve been eagerly counting down the days to the highly anticipated climax of the show that everyone seems to be talking about this festive season. This long-awaited finale promises to unravel a mind-blowing cliffhanger that has left fans in suspense for nearly four years, leaving us on tenterhooks with bated breath!
In my humble opinion, the 2019 reunion special took an unexpected turn when Nessa (Ruth Jones) dropped a knee to propose to her perpetually indecisive beau, Smithy (James Corden). Alas, the episode ended abruptly just as we were on the edge of our seats waiting for his response. The cliffhanger left me eagerly anticipating the next installment!
Now, there’s just about two months left before we conclude our unique love story.
The BBC posted a picture of the last set clapperboard, signifying the wrap-up of filming after scene number 80.

Earlier, one of the creators, Corden, had voiced some worries about the tight timeline for the project’s production, as it started shooting just last month and has a compressed schedule to prepare for airing.
Despite the significant anticipation and impressive viewership from the last installment (which attracted over 17 million viewers in 2019), it’s positive news that this project is expected to meet its deadline.
Despite the plot details of the upcoming episode being closely guarded secrets, Rob Brydon, one of the stars on Gavin & Stacey, has praised the script as “outstanding” in a recent interview.
He shared that the news brought him to tears, as it was an emotional moment for him, and he mentioned that they, the main cast members, had been aware of an upcoming episode for quite some time.
We anticipated that event, yet we were instructed to conceal it. This means we must deceive others – a sensation that’s quite discomforting, as no one likes to tell untruths directly.
The upcoming 2024 Christmas special of Gavin & Stacey will bring back the original actors, including writers Jones and Corden, along with Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, and the previously mentioned Brydon.
