Gavin & Stacey’s Alison Steadman says cast were in tears after final scenes

As a long-time fan of Gavin & Stacey who has eagerly awaited each new episode since its debut, I can only imagine the mixed feelings that the cast and crew must be experiencing now that filming on the final Christmas special has wrapped. On one hand, it’s a bittersweet moment to bid farewell to a beloved show that has brought so much joy to audiences for years. On the other, the wrap party sounds like it was an unforgettable celebration of their time together.

The production of the last-ever episode of Gavin & Stacey has been completed, and, as reported by lead actress Alison Steadman, it was an emotional goodbye for the entire cast.

On The One Show last night (October 9th), Steadman mentioned: “The past five weeks have been wonderful, wrapping up just on Monday. However, everyone was apprehensive about the last scene as we concluded.

A large majority of us, nearly 90%, found ourselves shedding tears. A few managed to hold back, but the experience was truly… yes, it was incredible.

Regarding the celebration that followed, she mentioned: “Indeed, we held a wrap party. It was quite delightful, truly wonderful. However, we’ll also miss not filming any longer; it was simply fantastic.

Just yesterday, I got some exciting news straight from the BBC! They confirmed that filming for their much-anticipated Christmas special has finally been completed. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!

In an interview on Good Morning Britain, Larry Lamb added some details about the wrap party: “Indeed, it was quite a grand affair, and James and Ruth went all out to make it special. Truly, it was a fantastic event.

In response to Ed Balls’ query about whether it was definitely over, Lamb suggested that it would be more appropriate to invite James Corden and Ruth Jones onto the show for questioning as they are the origin of everything.

Susanna Reid asked playfully, “Won’t you want another one?” To which Lamb replied affectionately, “Yes, we’d grow to be a family.

Although there’s no official confirmation about more episodes of Gavin & Stacey in the future, eager fans can look forward to seeing their favorite characters together again when the series returns for a special episode airing on Christmas Day.

After finishing work on the Christmas special, Lamb commented: “It felt like a walk through old times. All of a sudden, we were there again, confronted with the reality that this marks the conclusion of our story – the end of our voyage, and it was incredibly moving.

He added: “On the last day of filming, we were filming the end of the story, which is so unusual because nine times out of ten you find that you’re doing the end on the first day, and you’re doing the beginning right at the end of it all.

On the final day of our filming, I found myself immersed in the culmination of the tale, with a constant mental clockwork-like ticking echoing through my thoughts. The emotions steadily escalated, layer upon layer, reaching a crescendo that was nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful.

Gavin & Stacey returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day.
