Ben Wheatley’s zombie horror series Generation Z has been cancelled by Channel 4 after one season.
Last year, a six-episode series was broadcast, taking place in the seemingly ordinary town of Danbury. The peaceful existence of its inhabitants was drastically disrupted when an unexpected catastrophe began to transpire.
According to the summary: “An accident involving an army’s supply truck flipping over near a nursing home triggers a hazardous substance leak that begins to affect the home’s inhabitants negatively.
Cecily and Frank, the elderly pair portrayed by Sue Johnston from ‘The Royle Family’ and Paul Bentall in ‘The World’s End’, managed to evade the military forces trying to control them. These individuals were driven by a fierce, ravenous appetite for uncooked meat.
After the emergence of the undead elders, a band of adolescents found themselves compelled to face the unraveling catastrophe that lay before them.

A representative from Channel 4 expressed their pride in Generation Z and extended gratitude towards Ben Wheatley, The Forge, as well as the talented cast and crew who contributed to the show’s achievement. They are excited about collaborating with them on upcoming Channel 4 productions.
The show was first presented at the Edinburgh TV Festival, where Channel 4 characterized it as a series addressing intergenerational fairness and societal disintegration. It daringly satirizes a world where reality outpaces fiction, delving into not only the political divisions in our society but also the genuine challenges confronting today’s teenagers.
