As a film critic with a penchant for heartwarming romcoms that resonate deeply, I am beyond excited about the upcoming BBC series, Film Club! With a stellar cast led by the incredibly talented Aimee Lou Wood and Suranne Jones, this six-part series promises to be a witty and emotional journey about love, family, and the age-old question of whether we should follow our hearts or heads.

For those who enjoy romantic comedies, mark your calendars! The BBC is set to debut a delightful new series called Film Club. Known for its sharp humor and heartfelt warmth, this six-part production promises an unforgettable viewing experience.

Apart from being Aimee Lou Wood’s first foray into screenwriting, the series also features her in the main role as Evie. Additional information about the cast has recently been disclosed.

In the Film Club, Nabhaan Rizwan, known as Kaos, is set to join the cast, taking on the role of Noa. Meanwhile, Suranne Jones from Vigil is poised to portray Suz, a quirky and unorthodox character who is Evie’s mother.

In addition to the main cast, Adam Long (from Happy Valley) takes on the role of Evie’s boyfriend named Josh, and Liv Hill (known for Three Girls) portrays Evie’s sister, Izzie.

Co-creator Ralph Davis will play Dominic, Film Club’s newest member.

The upcoming series, humorously and sentimentally exploring themes of love, family, and the struggle between heart and mind, can be found on BBC Three and iPlayer starting next year. Filming for this production has begun earlier in Manchester.

“Every Friday night at 7pm, Film Club is taking place, marking its 198th gathering. After experiencing a difficult period known as a ‘wobble’, Evie finds solace in this club. It serves as her opportunity to transform the garage into an imaginative setting inspired by each movie, and enjoy some quality time with Noa – her loyal friend and one of the few companions who continue to support her.

However, tonight, there’s a change. Noa has some major announcements. It seems he’s landed his dream job, one that requires him to move to the opposite side of the country. As a result, this chapter in our lives appears to be drawing to a close.

It’s becoming clear to them that their friendship could potentially deepen into something more significant. For both of them, dealing with emotions isn’t their strong suit, but this situation might be one where they can’t help but feel things strongly.

In addition to the existing difficulties in her life, Evie finds herself dealing with the quirks of her household, which consists of her strongly affectionate single mother Suz, her sister Izzie, and her sometimes domesticated partner, Josh.

Upon the reveal of the cast, Aimee Lou Wood expressed her excitement: “I’m overjoyed that our cherished TV show, Film Club – a screenplay we’ve been crafting for a decade with Ralph – begins filming this week.

There’s no words for how thrilled and appreciative we are, working with such an outstanding crew at the BBC. It’s truly special to collaborate with Nabhaan and Suranne, two talented actors I’ve long respected, in making this project come alive.

Absolutely, Wood is recognized for playing key roles in Sex Education, Daddy Issues, and Seize Them!. Notably, she’ll appear in the upcoming third season of HBO’s series The White Lotus as well.

In much the same way, Suranne Jones commented: “Aimee has been someone I’ve admired for some time now, I find her to be authentic, witty, and incredibly talented. It was only natural that the script Aimee and Ralph Davis penned would reflect these qualities too.
