Although E3 was riddled with evident problems leading up to its closure a couple of years ago, we’re still doubtful that Summer Game Fest has effectively filled the void it left behind.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that the program, under the meticulous guidance of creator Geoff Keighley, has been consistently growing. In fact, it achieved an impressive 50 million views across all platforms in its most recent release, marking an increase of 89% compared to the previous year.
It’s noteworthy to point out that Sony’s latest State of Play event, although independent from Summer Game Fest, garnered the highest viewership yet – significantly surpassing the attendance of any E3 press conference.
The Summer Game Fest isn’t limited to Kiegehley’s stage performance, it also includes an interactive event known as Play Days, held in Los Angeles. This year, among the games previewed for media, there were titles like Pragmata and Sonic Racing CrossWorlds.
To be frank, we found this year’s livestream somewhat lacking in substantial content. However, we acknowledge that the selection of content might not primarily be within Keighley’s power to decide.
One potential rephrasing of the sentence could be: Creating an event independently might necessitate publishers buying ad spaces to cover costs, resulting in extended durations that can sometimes feel excessive or inconvenient.
