As a movie buff with a penchant for cinema history and a soft spot for iconic characters, I must admit that the idea of Scottish legends taking on the role of Santa Claus is nothing short of enchanting. Having spent countless hours immersed in the silver screen world, it’s fascinating to see actors like Brian Cox and Gerard Butler stepping into the red suit and white beard.
Santa Claus, undeniably one of the most recognized figures throughout history, has been portrayed by numerous actors across various movies and television productions spanning many decades.
This year, two fresh animated flicks have added some notable celebrities to their casts. Brian Cox will portray a character in the Netflix film “That Christmas,” while Gerard Butler lends his voice to Santa Claus in Sky Cinema’s “The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland.
Indeed, one shared trait between these performers is that they’re both natives of Scotland. As per Butler’s perspective, it’s high time we consider the idea that Santa Claus might just be of Scottish origin.
Initially, as he perused the script, Butler observed that the character resembled the familiar image of Santa Claus, yet it resonated with facets of his personal character as well. These elements seemed seldom highlighted in previous endeavors.
“I felt when I read this, ‘Let me in right now.’”
Although the role was entertaining, there were some difficulties that came with voice acting Santa, particularly since this portrayal frequently broke into song throughout the 80-minute movie.
As a die-hard movie lover, I’ve long admired Gerard Butler for his acting prowess, but let me tell you, even a seasoned performer like him needed a bit of time to get back in sync with the rhythm of singing on screen. After all, he did captivate us as the Phantom of the Opera!
However, over the following hours, it turned out to be quite captivating as I found myself effortlessly composing songs. The progress and understanding of the events were noticeable.
