The highly anticipated anime adaptation of the iconic video game franchise, “Devil May Cry,” is set to premiere on Netflix this Spring, following successful collaborations between Adi Shankar and Netflix in bringing other popular gaming franchises to life in animated form. Shankar, known for his work on shows like “Castlevania” and “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix,” is now directing the upcoming adaptation of Devil May Cry, which will be available on Netflix starting April this year.
Although “Devil May Cry” previously appeared in special projects years ago, this upcoming Netflix series marks the first full-length adaptation that fans have eagerly waited for. The new opening song by Limp Bizkit gives the series a distinct feel compared to previous incarnations, and Netflix has just unveiled a fresh poster offering a sneak peek at the series. Take a look below at this exciting new glimpse.
When Does Devil May Cry Come Out?
Starting from April 3rd, the global debut of “Devil May Cry” will take place on Netflix. The series comprises eight episodes for its first season, and Johnny Yong Bosch, reprising his role, will provide Dante’s voice in the English-dubbed version. Adi Shankar, who is both Executive Producer and Showrunner, has created “Devil May Cry”. This collaboration between Shankar, Capcom, and Netflix fits snugly within Shankar’s growing collection of projects known as the “Bootleg Multiverse”.
In this upcoming anime, Studio MIR (responsible for shows like The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, and The Legend of Korra) has teamed up with writer Alex Larsen. Hideaki Itsuno from Capcom and Seung Wook Lee from Studio MIR serve as Executive Producers. Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin” is set to be the opening theme for the series. Characters from the original Devil May Cry games, including Dante, will appear in the new anime, although it remains a secret who from the games will return to reprise their characters. The series is hinted at running for multiple seasons.
Why You Should Watch Devil May Cry
Initially, when the Devil May Cry series was unveiled, Shankar expressed his thoughts as follows about the upcoming project: “I’m privileged that both Netflix and Capcom have chosen me to oversee the DEVIL MAY CRY franchise. Alex Larsen and I are huge fans of these characters, and we promise to exceed the extremely high standards we’ve set for ourselves.” Regarding what viewers can anticipate from this fresh interpretation of Devil May Cry, Netflix hints at the upcoming series in this manner:
Stepping into the animated realm, I find myself immersed in the chilling tale spun from Capcom’s iconic game, “Devil May Cry.” A clandestine plot is afoot to breach the boundary between our world and the demon domain. In the heart of this turmoil stands Dante, an orphaned bounty hunter specializing in demon extermination, oblivious to the cosmic responsibility that rests upon his shoulders. With Adi Shankar’s successful adaptations of other gaming franchises through Netflix, it’s evident that “Devil May Cry” is poised to be a standout contender for the year’s best releases. All we can do now is wait and see how it unfolds on screen and what elements from the original games will be brought to life.
