The fourth season of “Invincible” is being developed for release next year, and it will introduce the most formidable villain yet in the animated series. In the previous season (Season 3), Mark Grayson battled against multiple versions of himself across the globe, and then faced the recurring threat of the Viltrumites with his toughest opponent so far, Conquest. However, Conquest was merely a precursor to the series’ ultimate villain.
The fourth season of “Invincible” has been officially confirmed for release next year, and it’s got fans excited with some tantalizing details. Not only does this announcement signal a fresh, original story unseen in the comics, but there’s also a hint that “Thragg” will be making an appearance. This is significant because it suggests a new voice actor has joined the series and Thragg is indeed part of the upcoming season. But who is Thragg? He’s a formidable Viltrumite villain, marking one of the biggest challenges our protagonist, Mark, will ever face.
Thragg Is Coming in Invincible Season 4
In the upcoming season of Invincible, it’s uncertain who will embody the character Thragg, but series creator Robert Kirkman hinted at his casting after the end of the third season: “It would certainly be strange if he didn’t appear on the show. I mean, I’m not sure. It’s challenging. However, let me tell you this: He has been cast and he’s fantastic.” At that time, Kirkman couldn’t reveal much about the villain, but considering what lies ahead in the story, it would indeed be peculiar if Thragg didn’t make an appearance.
In the third season finale of Invincible, a tantalizing hint is given about the upcoming Viltrumite War saga. Unlike the brief Invincible War, which spanned only one comic issue and an episode in the animated series, the Viltrumite War promises to be a much longer and complex conflict. This is due to the revelation of who Conquest ultimately reports to. Although Conquest is formidable on his own, he’s not the most powerful Viltrumite. There’s someone higher up in the hierarchy that he must answer to, and their role will significantly impact the series’ future. To delve into this aspect requires some spoilers, though.
In the upcoming Season 4 of Invincible, we’re diving headfirst into the Viltrumite War storyline, which is set to kick off the new season. While there may be some later events woven in as well, this major narrative thread will serve as a starting point. This arc is significant because it reunites Nolan and Allen after hinting at their partnership in Season 3, sending them on a cosmic quest to gather all the Viltrumite vulnerabilities for a massive assault on the Viltrumite Empire. It’s during this war that viewers will be introduced to Thragg for the first time, and he won’t be disappearing anytime soon.
Who Is Thragg in Invincible?
Delving into some tantalizing details without giving away too much, I’ve always been excited about the substantial part Thragg plays in the latter half of Invincible’s comic saga. Though the animated series may reshuffle things, it’s clear that Thragg will become a pivotal figure as the Viltrumite Empire looms larger in the storyline ahead. The absence of Thragg was a notable gap in Season 3, but rest assured, he’ll make his grand entrance in the upcoming season, filling that void effectively.
Thragg serves as the supreme leader of the Viltrumite Empire, requiring unparalleled strength to maintain his position. Given the Viltrumites’ tradition of eliminating their weaker members, Thragg ascended to power due to his extraordinary might. Compared to Conquest, he is significantly stronger, and at present, even Invincible’s characters like Nolan and Mark find it challenging to match him. As the story progresses, Thragg seems likely to be the most formidable antagonist Invincible will face before the series concludes, resembling a “main villain” figure.
Although there are powerful antagonists who emerge later causing significant changes in the established order and numerous character fatalities (and some might argue they pose a greater threat to Mark), Thragg consistently ties events back to the Viltrumite Empire. The plot undergoes a dramatic shift once he arrives on the scene, and things are about to escalate significantly from Season 4 and beyond. Essentially, Thragg signals the beginning of the build-up towards the climax, so it’s time to brace yourself for what lies ahead.
