In a groundbreaking move, the folklore of Tsushima has stepped into uncharted realms – the realm of anime. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, PlayStation Productions, along with Aniplex, Sony Music, and Crunchyroll, unveiled an anime adaptation titled “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends“, set in the world of Ghost of Tsushima. This project is slated for release in 2027. The anime will be under the direction of Takanobu Mizuno, known for his work on “Star Wars Visions: The Duel“, and will feature animation by KAMIKAZE DOUGA, renowned for their work on “Batman Ninja” and “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” OPs. This announcement follows the unveiling of several film adaptations such as “Horizon: Zero Dawn” and “Helldivers“.

It brings together the talent from PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions, Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex, Sony Music’s renowned artists, and Crunchyroll’s worldwide marketing and distribution network focused on fans. This upcoming Ghost of Tsushima anime will provide fans with a thrilling new way to engage with the game, offering an anime-style experience that is both daring and innovative.
The series “Ghost of Tsushima” is a relatively fresh addition to PlayStation’s lineup of intellectual properties, developed by Sucker Punch Productions. The initial 2020 game centered around the story of lone samurai Jin Sakai as he battles the Mongols and contemplates whether to stick to the samurai code or adjust to the evolving nature of combat. A multiplayer mode titled “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends” allows you and your companions to assume the roles of samurai, fighting against numerous adversaries together. This year is expected to bring the release of “Ghost of Yōtei“, a sequel to “Ghost of Tsushima“. Set 329 years after the original’s events, it will follow a new female protagonist named Atsu and incorporate elements such as firearms, wolves, and transforming into ‘the Ghost’.
In 2027, it’s expected that “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends” will be available for viewing on Crunchyroll. At this time, neither the cast nor any additional crew members have been revealed. This upcoming venture is the second adaptation in progress for the game, as Chad Stahenski, known for his work on John Wick, is currently developing a movie based on “Ghost of Tsushima” as well.
