Ghost of Yōtei is Set 300 Years After Ghost of Tsushima

As a long-time fan who’s journeyed through the breathtaking landscapes of Tsushima and forged a deep connection with Jin Sakai, I must admit, I was taken aback when Sucker Punch announced their sequel, “Ghost of Yōtei.” However, upon learning that this new tale would feature a fresh protagonist named Atsu in an unexplored region of Japan, my curiosity piqued.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement as Sucker Punch Productions unveils the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima – Ghost of Yōtei, set for release in 2025. Though it introduces a fresh setting and hero, I find myself pondering why the development team chose to depart from Jin Sakai’s captivating storyline.

On the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch expressed their fascination with origin stories and sought to delve into the concept of a fresh hero donning a Ghost mask and unearthing a fresh legend. This desire sparked the creation of “Ghost of Yōtei:” a new character, an untold tale, and a chance to traverse a new region in Japan.

In the role of an enthusiastic admirer, I’d express it like this: “I’m excited about the upcoming story, titled ‘Atsu’, which takes place 300 years after my beloved ‘Ghost of Tsushima’. This captivating tale is set in the year 1603, in a region known as Ezo, which eventually transformed into Hokkaido. The towering Mount Yōtei stands at its heart, overseeing a vast expanse of tundras, forests, and grasslands. Being beyond Japan’s jurisdiction, this land is not governed by the same order as Tsushima was, offering a stark contrast to the disciplined samurai clans that once dwelled there. Sucker Punch hints at it being a world apart from those organized clans.

As a gamer, I can’t wait to delve deeper into the world of Atsu and her encounters with new characters over the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled for fresh updates in the meantime! In the interim, don’t miss out on our review for the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
