As an ardent enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the grandiose landscapes, the engrossing tale of vengeance, and the open-world design in Ghost of Yōtei. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that while it promises a substantial gaming experience, it may not surpass the colossal dimensions of Ghost of Tsushima. In a recent interview with VGC, co-director Jason Connell shed some light on this, indicating that the overall playtime is expected to be roughly similar.
Based on HowLongToBeat, the main storyline for Tsushima typically takes around 25 hours to finish. With additional content included, it could stretch up to 46 hours – not bad at all! However, the time spent in Yōtei may differ based on the player’s playstyle, and you can anticipate a wider range of activities there compared to Tsushima.
Even though Sucker Punch offers greater creative freedom, Connell firmly believes that the team will not relinquish the framework of the narrative. What I admire about the Ghost franchise is its array of possibilities for a personalized experience. We have an approachable game inspired by samurai cinema, and as developers, our challenge is to develop a game that offers the creative freedom we aim for, ensuring players can truly enjoy it, while at the same time, we will never compromise on maintaining the story’s structure.
In order to create a compelling narrative, it’s crucial that the story has a well-defined structure, consisting of a beginning, middle, and end. While Atsu’s mission is to track down the Yōtei Six, we won’t allow the story to devolve into an unstructured hunt where all six are killed without any thought given to maintaining the narrative’s integrity and coherence. The story is too important to us for that.
Instead of Ghost of Tsushima, the game titled Ghost of Yōtei will have Atsu engaging in a different approach, where she gathers intel on multiple targets and trails their leads, which may lead her to vastly distinct locations. Consequently, it is probable that you’ll need to accomplish other tasks prior to confronting them directly. The paths chosen by players will determine the discovery of various weapon types, upgrades, and additional content, thus influencing their gameplay style and adventure uniquely from the start.
Commencing on October 2nd, “Ghost of Yōtei” is set to debut, offering an exclusive play on PS5. For a comprehensive understanding of its offerings and the role of camping in enhancing the overall experience, be sure to explore our detailed features!
