It’s probably fair to say the Switch 2 reveal didn’t quite go how Nintendo had planned it.
Although we anticipate the system to be remarkably successful, it has garnered a significant amount of negative attention due to several factors, including high software costs, Game Key cartridges, and the expensive tutorial, Welcome Tour.
However, the unexpected announcement of the release date for Ghost of Yotei last week sparked a new tide of discontent towards Nintendo, particularly regarding their Mario Kart World launch game priced steeply at $79.99 within the U.S.
Initially, it was thought that Sony wouldn’t alter its pricing approach so swiftly, but they unexpectedly announced that Sucker Punch’s sequel will retail at the standard price of $69.99, which is common for premier PS5 exclusives. Additionally, a Deluxe Edition offering some extra DLC will also be on sale for $79.99 as an optional purchase.
Some people believe that the high production costs associated with Ghost of Yotei, such as its cinematic style and superior graphics, may justify Nintendo’s pricing strategy, as they estimate it could have cost Sony more to produce than Mario Kart World.
It’s often important to note that just because a game requires more money to produce doesn’t automatically make it more enjoyable. Take Ghost of Yotei and Mario Kart as examples – they are strikingly distinct in their appeal. However, this idea is clear: cost and fun aren’t always correlated.
Absolutely, it’s interesting that Sucker Punch’s new release seems to underprice Nintendo’s offering. However, we’re not entirely certain if this pricing strategy will endure in the long run.
The spotlight will be on both GTA 6 and Nintendo’s exclusive software. If other game publishers also aim high in terms of quality and sales continue to thrive, it could potentially lead Sony to consider raising their prices to $79.99 as well.
