GI Joe’s First Team Meets Brutal Fate and Confirms Major Death

As a lifelong fan of the G.I. Joe saga, I must say that this latest turn of events has left me reeling. The relentless assault on our beloved team is reminiscent of a rollercoaster ride – intense, heart-pounding, and utterly unpredictable. The death of Rock ‘n Roll was a gut punch, and the injuries sustained by Stalker, Cover Girl, and Clutch only add to the grim tally.

In issue #1 of G.I. Joe, the conflict between G.I. Joe and Cobra intensified significantly, leading to a heartbreaking demise for a beloved character at the end of the story. Regrettably, the situation deteriorates even further in issue #2 as the initial G.I. Joe team is mercilessly wiped out. Although no additional lives were lost, Duke and Baroness are now left with the challenging task of forming a new team following Cobra’s devastating attack on their original one. Proceeding from here, there will be full spoilers, so consider yourself warned.

Following Rock ‘n Roll’s demise at the hands of Cobra, the remaining team members are being rounded up by Cobra forces. However, Duke intervenes, crashing his vehicle headlong into a volley of Cobra Soldiers. The Baroness manages to rescue Striker from imminent execution, and subsequently, Clutch seizes one of their laser rifles and retaliates with gunfire.

Observing the unfolding conflict at a distance, I, as Cobra Commander, secretly trigger a self-destruct mechanism within our latest weaponry, resulting in an enormous explosion in our lab. Duke manages to escape from the debris, but unfortunately, others were not as fortunate, and the number of injured is substantial.

Initially, it’s been officially confirmed that Rock ‘n Roll tragically passed away on duty, dealing a heavy blow to those who had hoped for his miraculous survival. At present, Stalker is undergoing surgery, and despite the doctors assuring recovery, his injuries are severe, ensuring he won’t be active in the field for a while.

Additionally, there’s Cover Girl, who endured severe burns on her face, legs, and arms due to an explosion caused by Cobra’s Energon-fueled weaponry. The burns are inflicting intense pain as medical professionals work diligently to heal her wounds. However, the nature of the power source for these laser rifles remains undisclosed, which complicates the doctors’ efforts in treating her injuries.

In the final analysis, it was revealed that team member Clutch, who had been reported missing and presumed dead, was actually alive and well, hiding among the enemy ranks at Cobra Headquarters, disguised as a soldier. The Joes had yet to clear the debris from the battlefield, leading them to believe he might be trapped beneath it, but readers knew better. Clutch himself was far from happy about his situation, as shown on the final page of the story.

Originally, two of the original team members, Duke and Baroness, have returned to headquarters and are still functioning, but they’ve both been injured and are in poor condition. Soon, a new team will be required, and unfortunately, the recruitment process for the first new member hasn’t gone particularly well.

Initially, none anticipated that a team member would perish in the initial episode, let alone more than half of the team disappearing by the third. Yet, such an unfortunate turn of events has transpired. Now, it falls upon Duke and Baroness to assemble a fresh group to confront Cobra and seek retribution. Fortunately, they’ll receive some assistance from within their ranks.
