As a seasoned moviegoer who has seen my fair share of films, I must say that this November is truly a cinematic feast for all ages! From the enchanting adventures of Paddington, Moana, and Wicked to the epic return of Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator II.
This coming November offers an abundance of fantastic family-friendly films to enjoy: Currently, “Paddington in Peru” is screening in UK theaters, and in the upcoming weeks, viewers can look forward to “Wicked” and the sequel “Moana 2”. Quite a selection to choose from!
However, there’s another significant film release this month that might not be ideal for a family trip to the cinema: Gladiator II. This is Ridley Scott’s long-awaited sequel to his Academy Award-winning movie from 2000, currently playing in UK cinemas, a full week before its US premiere. The film primarily caters to an older audience compared to the ones mentioned earlier.
Similar to the initial movie, it incorporates a good amount of violent content, including battle scenes and individual combat matches – which may leave you questioning its appropriateness for young audience members.
Read on for everything you need to know about what age rating the film has been handed in the UK.
Gladiator 2 age rating: Is it suitable for younger viewers?
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has given the movie a 15 rating, indicating it contains intense gore and graphic depictions of injury, making it suitable only for viewers who are fifteen years old or older.
On the British Board of Film Classification’s (BBFC) site, it is noted that the film contains “frequent fight sequences and graphic killings, occasionally including gruesome visuals.” The movie receives a rating of 4/5 in terms of both violence intensity and gore.
The content has been rated as follows: 3/5 for language, sex, drugs, and nudity; and 2/5 each for “intimidation and horror” and “sexual violence and sexual threats”.
Remarkably, just like the original Gladiator when it premiered in 2000, it received a rating of 15.
In the U.S., the release of the movie is scheduled for November 22nd. The motion picture has received an R rating, indicating that children under 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult to attend the screening.
