As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement for Edgar Wright and Glen Powell’s reimagining of Stephen King’s “The Running Man”. Growing up, I vividly remember the 1987 adaptation starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which left a lasting impression on me. Now, with Wright at the helm, I have high hopes for a fresh take on this classic dystopian tale.
The upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man,” directed by Edgar Wright and starring Glen Powell, is moving a step closer to reality as it prepares for production this November, following approval from Paramount Pictures. This news comes from a recent report by The Wrap. With Powell balancing filming with finishing his degree at the University of Texas, it appears that production will start in the fall, as he had previously hinted to IndieWire.
According to Powell, he won’t be attending regular classes with other students due to his busy schedule. Instead, he will return to complete his studies but will primarily focus on shooting “The Running Man” in the fall, which takes place in London. However, he will still come back for proctored exams, using distance learning for the rest of his courses. He’ll be joining classes via Zoom and plans to visit campus about two or three times a semester for all his proctored exams. The university has been understanding, allowing him to finish his degree amidst their big movie production.
What Is The Running Man Remake About?
In a futuristic society riddled with distress, a television program called “The Running Man” arises, inviting participants to evade law enforcement for an extended duration. If they manage to outmaneuver them, they win a substantial monetary reward. However, for a month, they become targets, pursued relentlessly by individuals authorized to use lethal force. The narrative was previously brought to life on the big screen in 1987, under the direction of Paul Michael Glaser, with Arnold Schwarzenegger portraying the main character.
In a previous part of the interview, Powell expressed his excitement by saying, “I found an email from 2008 where I listed my dream directors to work with in LA, and guess who was number one? Edgar Wright! It’s incredible that I get to collaborate with him now on this project, which is based on a Stephen King book. We both share a deep love for the story, and the world that Edgar has created is simply mind-blowing.”
