Gluttonous

Oliva Munn thinks these stars should stay out of space.

Actress from The Newsroom highlighted certain concerns she held regarding the upcoming female-led space mission organized by Blue Origin, a space tech firm founded by Jeff Bezos.

On April 3, during her guest co-hosting stint on “Today With Jenna & Friends”, Olivia, aged 44, expressed, “What are people up to these days?” She added, “It might not be fashionable to say this, but there are numerous other critical matters that demand our attention in the world currently.

On February 27, Blue Origin declared that an all-female crew – comprising Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Jeff Bezos, along with Katy Perry and Gayle King – are set to embark on a space journey on April 14 for approximately 11 minutes. This marks the first all-women flight since the solo mission of Valentina Tereshkova from the Soviet Union in 1963.

Olivia expressed curiosity about the intentions of the mission, involving individuals such as former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, entrepreneur and activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. Specifically, she asked, “What exactly will you be doing in space? What is your purpose up there?

She added, “It might seem rude to say, but consider this: the cost to travel to space is astronomical compared to basic necessities such as food, for instance, the price of eggs, which many people struggle to afford.

Olivia, who’s married to comedian John Mulaney, kept questioning the ethical implications and commented, “It seems like a significant amount of resources are being used.

Ultimately, the Our Friends & Neighbors actress feels the trip is unnecessary.

She questioned, “Why bother? Is it significant that you’re going on a journey in space? I find it excessive,” she remarked. “The purpose of space exploration is to expand our understanding and aid humanity. What benefits will we reap from this adventure that improves our lives here on Earth?

However, despite varied responses upon its announcement, Sánchez, a key figure in organizing the mission, highlighted the reasons behind selecting each woman involved.

She shared with Elle magazine on April 2 that each of these women is a unique storyteller in their own capacity. They will have the opportunity to travel to space, where they can express and share their experiences in various creative manners.

Bowe also noted the importance of showing young girls what is possible for them.

She stated, “This depiction is indeed significant; it allows individuals to recognize themselves and express genuine selves in their professional lives down the line.
