God of War Developer Sony Santa Monica is Working on a New IP – Rumour

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as SIE Santa Monica Studios ventures into uncharted territories. The news that they are working on an entirely new IP has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within the gaming community, myself included.

It’s been clarified by SIE Santa Monica Studio that while God of War Ragnarok concludes the Norse tale for God of War, the franchise isn’t done yet – a fact many might have already anticipated. Surprisingly, their next project might not be another God of War game as initially presumed.

According to a user on ResetEra, a developer who previously worked with Santa Monica Studios has updated their LinkedIn profile to reveal they are now involved in creating a brand-new intellectual property (IP) for the studio. Here’s the exciting part: “I was given the chance to rejoin Santa Monica Studios as Character Supervisor, overseeing the entire Character Development pipeline for our new IP. I can hardly contain my excitement about returning to work with this fantastic team and contributing once more to the development of video game characters.”

It’s been revealed through multiple job postings over the past few years that SIE Santa Monica Studio is developing a new, unnamed game. Rumors suggest that this project could be a fresh intellectual property headed by Cory Barlog, who was the director for the 2018 release of God of War, but didn’t hold the same role in the 2022 sequel, God of War Ragnarok, with Eric Williams taking over as director instead.

It’s unclear whether the project Barlog is overseeing is an entirely new series or part of the God of War franchise. If it’s a new IP, it might bring questions about the future direction of the God of War series.
