A fresh whisper concerning the future direction of PlayStation’s God of War saga hints at potential paths it may take post-2022’s “God of War Ragnarok”. Ever since this game, fans have speculated about Kratos’ next steps. Though I won’t reveal the specifics of the ending of “Ragnarok”, its climax leaves multiple intriguing options for the series to explore in the future. Interestingly, one widely-accepted theory regarding where Santa Monica Studio might take God of War next has gained additional credibility from a reliable source within the industry.
Based on Daniel Richtman’s reports, Sony is actively seeking Middle Eastern actors for an upcoming top-tier PlayStation game. Although the specific title of the game remains unconfirmed, Richtman speculates that the casting could be connected to the next major installment in the God of War series. Additionally, he suggests that this new God of War game may draw from Egyptian mythology, which could explain Sony’s focus on actors with ties to this cultural background.
Since as far back as the reboot of God of War in 2018, speculation about the God of War series shifting to Egyptian mythology has been buzzing. With Kratos traversing both Greek and Norse pantheons, it’s become a common belief that Egypt could be the next grand mythology he encounters. In fact, one God of War spin-off comic from 2021 hinted at this by showing that Kratos has had past interactions with Egyptian characters.
The concept that Kratos from God of War might travel to Egypt in future games is supported by the recent installments in the series. In both God of War and God of War Ragnarok, the game hints at other pantheons worldwide that the Norse god Tyr had previously visited. One of these pantheons was linked to Egyptian mythology, suggesting that this realm is part of the God of War universe. If the latest rumors are true, it appears that the series could soon move its focus to this location.
As is often the case when such rumors surface, it’s crucial to approach them with caution. Richtman has explicitly stated that his comments are based on speculation regarding the potential connection between Sony’s castings and God of War. However, his speculation does align quite well with what one might expect.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of anticipation as God of War is rumored to venture into the mystique of ancient Egypt for its next epic journey. However, it seems we might have to wait quite a while before we get any official updates on this new installment. In the meantime, it’s heartening to know that Santa Monica Studio is hard at work, crafting a fresh, science-fiction themed world for a completely new intellectual property.
