The mayhem unleashed by Godzilla throughout the Marvel Universe kicks off, and if you’ve pondered how a collaboration between the Monster King and Marvel’s founding heroes might unfold, then get ready for a thrill! In the comic book titled Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four, penned by Ryan North and illustrated by John Romita Jr., you’ll witness an unconventional partnership between giants and superheroes to protect Earth – though New York might take some collateral damage in the fight. The tale offers a delightful adventure that encapsulates the spirit of classic Fantastic Four, classic Godzilla, and comic book enjoyment at its finest!
The story begins as the Fantastic Four confront an astounding cataclysmic incident. A brief memory resurfaces of their prior encounter with Godzilla in Japan, where they arrived too late to prevent him. It’s revealed that Dr. Daisuke Serizawa sacrificed himself to defeat Godzilla. However, the battle wasn’t over; now, Godzilla has appeared in New York. Despite their valiant attempts, the team finds Godzilla overwhelming. In a desperate move, they devise a risky plan that works initially — but then they face an even greater threat: the arrival of King Ghidorah, known as Galactus’ herald.
The emergence of a massive danger sparks some intriguing partnerships. Even Silver Surfer joins the fray, transferring his cosmic abilities to Godzilla, transforming the titan into a Cosmic Godzilla capable of battling Ghidorah. This unexpected turn of events results in an unprecedented display of unity as enemies from moments ago must band together to defeat Ghidorah and protect our world.
Does the story make perfect sense? Not at all. Is it incredibly enjoyable? Without a doubt. Nearly every aspect of this issue shines. The Fantastic Four fit seamlessly into this retro-styled battle, reminding us why they are one of Marvel’s most cherished teams. Godzilla is equally impressive, rampaging through New York before teaming up to confront Ghidorah – a truly fantastic spectacle. It’s nothing but thrilling action, and it’s a blast! The art is also quite good. While Romita Jr.’s work on human faces can sometimes be underwhelming, with some odd angles and proportion issues, Godzilla is majestic and regal in this comic.
The clash between Godzilla and Fantastic Four offers an enjoyable experience throughout. The narrative skillfully combines elements from both series (to put it simply) to create a thrilling journey that stays faithful to both originals, while still being a joy to read. Packed with action and unexpected twists, this book is nothing short of delightful and could even spark a newfound admiration for the unusual blend of these franchises.
