Despite the disappointment of the series’ creator, Gojo Satoru continues to be one of the most beloved characters from Jujutsu Kaisen, surpassing even its main character Yuji. Although the manga has finished and Season 2 of the anime has removed Gojo from the storyline, Gojo is once again gaining attention due to the upcoming release of the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death movie in July. To heighten the anticipation, the series’ creator, Gege Akutami, recently revealed a sneak peek into Gojo’s untold past that won’t even be covered in the forthcoming film.
In a recent post by @Go_jover, artist Gege Akutami unveiled fresh illustrations showcasing Gojo’s rite of passage ceremony. The new drawings depict a younger Gojo with a shorter hairstyle, and Naoya Zenin is spotted among the faceless attendees at the event. As stated in the accompanying text, this ceremony took place within the Gojo Clan’s residence. The illustration suggests that Gojo made the decision to leave the Gojo Clan upon enrolling in Jujutsu High. In accordance with his decision, the Gojo Clan permitted Gojo to join Jujutsu High, but only after they conducted his coming-of-age ceremony first to prevent any misconceptions about their relationship being strained. This arrangement was agreed upon by Gojo himself.
Gojo Clan’s Coming-of-Age Ceremony Welcomes Gojo! Naoya Was There to Witness It

Jujutsu Kaisen Needs To Explore Gojo’s Character More Before the Final Arc
Although Gojo is an intriguing character in Jujutsu Kaisen, fans have limited knowledge about his personal life and past. The story of Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen primarily revolves around the Hidden Inventory Arc and a brief look at him as a child through Toji Fushiguro. As a result, it’s captivating to explore more about Gojo’s life before attending Jujutsu High.
In the illustrated scenes depicting the genpuku ceremony, an important rite of passage in Japanese culture, Gojo underwent this ritual when he was around 15 years old or younger. As a second-year student during the Hidden Inventory Arc, Gojo was 16 at that time, suggesting an earlier ceremony. His stoic, somewhat disinterested expression in the sketches can be attributed to being forced to participate in this tradition. It’s also intriguing to note his eagerness to attend Jujutsu High and distance himself from the Gojo Clan and their affairs, which later made him a prominent figure at the school.
In summary, Akutami’s recent sketches offer a peek into the tense political landscape of the Jujutsu world, focusing on the power struggle among the three prominent clans, an aspect that adds significant intrigue to Jujutsu Kaisen. Although this aspect isn’t fully delved into as much as it could be, it’s clear that the decision to hold this coming-of-age ceremony was more about maintaining appearances and demonstrating that even with Gojo joining Jujutsu High, the Gojo Clan would continue to have his support.
It’s logical considering how incredibly powerful Gojo was, as his birth tipped the scales of the world’s equilibrium. Regrettably, this significant aspect of Gojo’s tale didn’t appear in the series. However, there’s a chance that Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime could still delve into it before the story concludes. Until then, fans can look forward to more glimpses of Gojo’s past as shown in the upcoming Hidden Inventory movie.
On July 16, 2025, the movie “Jujutsu Kaisen: Concealed Arsenal / Untimely Demise” will be shown in cinemas all over North America.
