In contrast to some of Shueisha’s other heroic stories, Dragon Ball Super doesn’t typically portray Goku as a traditional hero. The latest installment of the series further solidifies this notion by disclosing how the world perceives Goku after his numerous actions. After taking a nearly year-long break following the sad demise of franchise creator Akira Toriyama last year, Dragon Ball Super returned this month with its first new chapter since then. This fresh chapter sheds light on previously unanswered questions from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc and offers more canonical revelations than anticipated.
In a fresh one-shot tale, Dragon Ball Super has come back, providing insights into the events that led Trunks and Goten to become their superhero personas before the storyline of the “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” arc in the manga. This prequel offers a detailed view of the characters’ origins, including a glimpse into the public’s perception of heroes such as Mr. Satan and even Goku. Interestingly, Goku is not highly revered by the world at this point in time.
Goku Isn’t Remember After Majin Buu Saga
In Chapter 104 of Dragon Ball Super, we delve into a fresh standalone episode that precedes the prologue of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This installment offers an expanded glimpse into Goten and Trunks’ high school life, while subtly hinting at the imminence of the ‘End of Z’. During a school trip to a museum dedicated to Earth’s legendary heroes, Goten and Trunks encounter statues commemorating figures who have saved the world. Some of these heroes are widely recognized, such as Mr. Satan, while others remain relatively obscure.
In Goku’s unique situation, he seems to occupy something between fame and obscurity. A special statue of him can be found in this museum, yet those responsible for its creation have no clear image of what he truly looks like. This level of acknowledgement fits since he rarely receives credit for the numerous times he’s saved the world, but also avoids such recognition. However, when he does appear in public, his presence is undeniably significant, as evidenced by his consistent involvement in the Tenkaichi Budokai tournament throughout the years. Thus, one could argue that he has more of a “legendary” status than being widely recognized as a traditional hero.
Goku Has Never Been a Traditional Hero
From my perspective, it’s incredibly insightful to reflect on how Goku’s impact reverberates throughout the Dragon Ball universe. Though Goku has valiantly safeguarded our world numerous times across the years, these battles often remain hidden from public view, leaving humanity oblivious and vulnerable in the midst of such turmoil.
It’s precisely this dynamic that makes Mr. Satan’s antics all the more amusing; he’s managed to exploit Goku’s heroic deeds for personal gain, but is fully aware that cosmic threats lurk on the horizon. The humor lies in his ability to capitalize on the chaos while knowing full well that our universe faces imminent peril.
In a fascinating twist, Dragon Ball Super presents Goku’s position in a new light. Despite being one of the most powerful fighters in his universe, it becomes clear that he is not universally recognized as the strongest and often faces opponents who outmatch him. Yet, Goku remains humble in the face of adversity, relishing these challenges. It makes his victories all the more impressive because they come from overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds.
