Good Morning America Moving to New Studio After 25 Years

It’s time to say Good Morning America from lower Manhattan.

Following a span of 25 years, the team behind “Good Morning America,” which includes news anchors Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan, and George Stephanopoulos (all in their late 50s and early 60s), are wrapping up their chapter at their Times Square studio. They’re planning to relocate the show to Hudson Square instead.

This week’s broadcast revealed it as the “grand finale” as we bid farewell to our cherished home, which we have called ours for the past 25 years.

For numerous members of the TV program’s team and on-air personalities, stepping into the ABC studios in Times Square marked a significant milestone in their professional journeys.

Robin, who began as a co-anchor in 2005, recounted in a post on the show’s Instagram, “I recall feeling like a young girl from Mississippi, and yet I was working in Times Square. It’s all so grand.

Michael also reminisced about his initial experience in the studio, set against the vibrant scene of Times Square’s neon signs and bustling atmosphere.

Looking back, I recalled the brilliant lights, the captivating persona, and the vibrant aura that made me feel quite nervous as I stepped inside,” the ex-NFL player mused. “Many thoughts swirled in my head.

As a lifestyle expert, I can’t help but reminisce about my initial encounters in the bustling heart of New York City – an experience that no one ever forgets. Much like everyone else, the legendary meteorologist Ginger Zee couldn’t resist its allure. “My very first steps into Times Square, setting foot in this studio, was nothing short of enchanting,” she recounted with a nostalgic smile, at 44 years old and still an integral part of the esteemed ABC News team for 14 remarkable years. “I remember gazing upwards, simply astonished, thinking ‘This can’t possibly be my reality.’

For George, who has worked as a co-anchor since 2009, this transition stirs recollections of his early days on GMA; however, he confessed that the specifics of his first day at the desk are now hard to recall.

He playfully remarked in his Instagram post, “It feels like such an eternity ago that I can hardly picture it,” before being reminded that the significant event he referred to happened on December 14, 2009. He went on to share a fun fact: “That very morning, I received a present—one of my first interviews was with David Axelrod, who was working in the White House for President Barack Obama at the time. They gave me a large alarm clock as a gift for my debut day.

Despite some mixed emotions about their relocation, the anchors began their final week at the NYC landmark on Monday with a full-circle moment. Tennis star Coco Gauff, following her victory at Roland Garros, paid a visit to the studio on June 9 – reminiscent of Serena Williams’ interview on the show after her first US Open win in 1999, which coincidentally took place during the same week that the morning program moved into its Times Square location.

As Robin noted, “This is the perfect bookend.”
