Gorgeous Journey-Like Sword of the Sea Lands on PS Plus Day One

In a piece of news somewhat overshadowed by all the State of Play reveals yesterday, it turns out that Sword of the Sea will be available directly on the PS Plus Extra tier at launch.

The visually striking PS5 game reminiscent of Journey and ABZU, has confirmed its release date on August 19th, during the mentioned broadcast. That’s a Tuesday, incidentally, suggesting it will likely debut alongside other August releases (which haven’t been disclosed yet).

Matt Nava, our creative director, is thrilled that you’ll soon be able to experience it for yourself and embark on a surfing journey, as he announced its addition to the PlayStation Plus lineup on the PlayStation Blog.

In a concise summary, Nava clarifies that, much like their past games ABZU and The Pathless, this new title primarily emphasizes captivating movement mechanics. Essentially, Sword of the Sea is centered around surfing. You’ll be gliding effortlessly across enigmatic flowing sands on an ancient and mighty hoversword.

Essentially, it seems that Sword of the Sea is building upon the spectacular surfing sequences found in Journey, and is planning to extend this idea throughout the entirety of its gameplay. We’re eagerly looking forward to hopping on board!
