As a seasoned crime-drama enthusiast with a penchant for British detective series and a soft spot for Roy Grace, I must say that the fourth season of Grace has set the stage for an intriguing ride. The cliffhanger ending of the premiere episode left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for our beloved Detective Inspector.
*Warning – contains spoilers for Grace season 4 episode 1*
The fourth season of “Grace” has begun explosively, culminating in an episode where Roy and Cleo became engaged. However, they received a menacing message hinting at her pregnancy.
In episode 2, the direction it’s heading is yet unclear – but luckily, we’ve got some sneak peeks of the upcoming release that may offer hints about what lies ahead.
As a film critic, I found myself immersed in scenes where a visibly expectant Cleo and her partner Roy savored their precious moments together. Meanwhile, the relentless pursuit of justice unfolded as the dedicated police squad delved into an investigation at a residence.
It appears there’s a connection to ancient Egypt and King Tutankhamun for whatever happens next week. Time to fuel our curiosity and engage in some intriguing conjecture!
For now, the detailed summary of episode 2 remains undisclosed. But since it’s adapted from the novel “Want You Dead,” we can speculate about potential plot directions by examining the book’s synopsis.
After being missing for ten years, Grace’s wife Sandy has been legally pronounced deceased. This now enables Grace to wed the mother of his young son.
“But Sandy’s disappearance is unexplained for a reason.

“Bryce Laurent resists his ex-girlfriend’s efforts to move forward in life. Her past experiences with Bryce’s volatile nature have left her seeking protection from the police. However, Bryce remains relentless, intent on damaging all that she cares about – friends, family, and eventually, her as well.”
It’s quite logical that there’s a strong focus on Roy’s lost wife, Sandy – seeing as we’ve learned she’s still somehow connected to his life, yet both Roy and Cleo are oblivious to this fact.

After the next episode, only three more episodes from season 4 remain to be broadcast, at which time Craig Parkinson, who plays Norman Potting, will no longer be part of the show.
Rest assured, fans, there’s no cause for concern! The series is set to carry on, as a fifth season has already been given the green light.
I’m excited to share that you can get hold of the Peter James Roy Grace books, which are being adapted for season 4 – ‘Dead Man’s Time’, ‘Want You Dead’, ‘You Are Dead’, and ‘Love You Dead’, right now on Amazon!
Grace season 4 will continue on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Sunday 8th September.
