Grantchester fans really don’t want Tom Brittney to leave as they share reactions

On Wednesday, 8th January, the much-loved series Grantchester came back on ITV for what appears to be Tom Brittney’s last season. It seems that viewers are deeply reluctant to see him depart from the show.

In the opening episode, there was a hint of his upcoming departure later in the series. This was suggested when he was summoned for a meeting by the bishop, who offered him a larger church position in Newcastle with more difficult responsibilities.

Initially, I found myself hesitant, but as the show unfolded, my perspective shifted dramatically. Now, it seems like my departure is just around the corner.

spectators are already preparing emotionally for the upcoming farewell, as numerous fans express their thoughts publicly on social platforms.

One enthusiast expressed their joy at the return of Grantchester, stating on X (previously known as Twitter), “It’s fantastic to have Grantchester back again.” Another fan shared a similar sentiment: “I’m not yet prepared for change; could Will stick around a bit longer?

A different person commented: “That final scene left me emotionally touched, which makes me realize I’m not fully prepared for the upcoming events.

That final scene clearly caught me off guard emotionally, suggesting I’m not fully psychologically prepared for next week. 😥💔 #Grantchester

Apart from the fans, even the cast and crew find themselves deeply affected by her departure, admitting that bidding farewell to Britney was a challenging experience for them as well.

On the day when it was time to bid farewell to Tom, seasoned actor Robson Green mentioned there was no need for acting. “Before we even began the scene, we were already emotional,” he added.

Additionally, series creator Daisy Coulam mentioned, “We were all emotional backstage as well. Many of us were shedding tears.

Though fans are undeniably disappointed about Brittney’s departure, there’s some exciting news: Rishi Nair is set to join the cast and assume the role of the new vicar named Alphy Kotteram!

Fans are sad that Brittney left, but there’s a silver lining – a fresh character, played by Rishi Nair, called Alphy Kotteram, is joining the show as the new vicar.

In this week’s edition of TopMob mag, Nair shared an intriguing tale about the guidance I received from Brittney before diving into my initial scenes. It seems I gleaned some invaluable insights from our conversation!

I chuckled, “The fellow offered me some invaluable tips on managing the production, along with a heap of suggestions for taking care of Robson Green. I suspect these pearls of wisdom originally came from James Norton, and have been passed down to me.
