Grantchester season 9 cast: Meet the characters in ITV drama

The ITV series Grantchester comes back on British TV screens for its ninth season, but unfortunately, this will be the last time we see Tom Brittney as Will Davenport.

After considering it carefully, the vicar accepts an intriguing fresh prospect, choosing instead to seize the day by saying “yes”.

In a statement, Brittney expressed that the decision to depart from the ITV drama in 2019 was the most difficult one they had ever faced.

However, it seems that every great tale must reach its conclusion, and it felt appropriate to draw a line under Will’s narrative, allowing us to explore where the story might go in his absence.

Initially, Will showed great enthusiasm and intensity, and I believe you witnessed his journey from start to finish, culminating in a relatively content conclusion, albeit tinged with sadness upon departure. However, I sensed he departed in tranquility, which made the ending seem fitting.

However, Brittney won’t be leaving immediately, so fans can continue to see the engaging dynamic between her and Robson Green’s character, Geordie Keating, on screen for a while longer.

Robson Green plays Geordie Keating

What’s the identity of Geordie Keating? He’s a tough-talking detective on the police force, with Will, the local vicar, serving as his closest friend. Geordie and his partner Cathy have faced numerous hurdles in their relationship, but seem to be thriving now. They are parents to four children together.

Have I encountered Robson Green in any other context? Robson Green is recognized as one-half of the ’90s singing duo, Robson and Jerome. On television, he has appeared in notable roles such as Dr Tony Hill in Wire in the Blood, Dave Ticket in Soldier Soldier, and more recently as Teddy in BBC One drama Age Before Beauty. He is also known for hosting various fishing shows like Robson Green: Extreme Fisherman.

Tom Brittney plays Will Davenport

What is known about Reverend Will Davenport? He’s a cleric who has taken over the role of the investigative parish priest in the town of Grantchester, previously portrayed by James Norton as Sidney Chambers. This new vicar also happens to be an enthusiast for motorcycles.

During season 5, Will made a personal promise to abstain from sexual relationships, which he ultimately broke with a nun. Subsequently, he became much more open about his sexuality, eventually forming a relationship with Bonnie and having a child together. Additionally, they raised her stepson. In season 9, however, Will decides to move on to new opportunities.

Who is Alphy Kotteram? Grantchester’s new vicar following Will’s exit.

Have I encountered Rishi Nair somewhere else, perhaps? He is most recognized for his role in Hollyoaks, but he’s also been a part of Count Abdulla and The Marlow Murder Club.

Charlotte Ritchie plays Bonnie Evans

Bonnie is the widowed niece of Cathy who raised her son, Ernie, alone. We were introduced to her in season one. Later in season 7, Bonnie got married to Will, and in the most recent season, they welcomed a new member into their family – a child born to them.

I recognize Charlotte Ritchie! She’s captivating as Alison in Ghosts on BBC, delightful as George in Feel Good, and convincing as Nurse Barbara Gilbert in Call the Midwife. I’ve also enjoyed her performances in Dead Pixels, Fresh Meat, Siblings, Raised by Wolves, McDonald & Dodds, and You.

Kacey Ainsworth plays Cathy Keating

Who is Cathy Keating in simple terms? She is Geordie’s partner. As reported by Ainsworth, the two have gone through their fair share of highs and lows, but they manage well together in their personal life.

Have I encountered Kacey Ainsworth before? She is known for her role as Little Mo in EastEnders, and she’s been on Holby City’s spin-off series Holby Blue. Additionally, she portrayed Miss Gullet, a kind-hearted character, in the modern version of the beloved ’90s kids’ show The Worst Witch.

Tessa Peake-Jones plays Mrs Chapman

This woman is deeply religious and devoted to her household duties. She doesn’t shy away from causing a stir when she believes it’s necessary.
