Grey’s Anatomy Bringing Back Kali Rocha as Sydney Heron After 17 Years

Grey's Anatomy Bringing Back Kali Rocha as Sydney Heron After 17 Years

As a die-hard Grey’s Anatomy fan with over two decades of emotional investment in this rollercoaster ride of a show, I can hardly contain my excitement as Season 21 promises to be a nostalgia trip like no other! The return of Kali Rocha as Dr. Sydney Heron after a 17-year hiatus has me reminiscing about the good old days when Bailey was on maternity leave and her replacement filled our screens.

In the upcoming Season 21 of “Grey’s Anatomy”, there’s an exciting twist from days gone by! As reported by Deadline, Kali Rocha is making a comeback to the venerable medical drama, reprising her character Dr. Sydney Heron for a guest stint – after 17 long years since her last appearance on the show. Rocha will feature in three episodes of Season 21, but the specifics regarding why her character is back have yet to be disclosed.

In the second season of “Grey’s Anatomy”, Rocha’s character debuted as a temporary fourth-year resident taking charge of the interns while Bailey (Chandra Wilson) was on maternity leave. This character made recurring appearances in Season 3 for five episodes and then reappeared in Season 4. Lastly, Rocha was seen on “Grey’s” in November 2017.

At a plot-relevant moment, Rocha’s Sydney makes her comeback. In the final episode of Season 20 on Grey’s Anatomy, there were quite a few dramatic events. Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) dismissed Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), Teddy (Kim Raver), and Owen (Kevin McKidd) due to Meredith’s Alzheimer’s research. The episode concluded with Bailey potentially being the next one in trouble, as she too spoke out against Catherine, this time regarding the intern’s future, which sets the stage for Rocha’s Sydney’s return.

Another Grey’s Anatomy Cast Member is Returning in Season 21

Besides Rocha, another former Grey’s Anatomy cast member, Jason George, will reappear in Season 21 as Ben Warren. George first appeared as Ben Warren on the long-running medical series before transitioning to Station 19. However, the latter show concluded this year, paving the way for Ben’s comeback to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Previously, George had expressed a willingness to return to Grey’s Anatomy and hinted that there were untold tales concerning his character, Miranda Bailey (played by Chandra Wilson).

George mentioned, “I believe there’s more to the tale of Ben-Bailey, or Benley, that hasn’t been shared yet.” He added, “There might be untold stories or conversations waiting to be discovered.”

Excitedly, I can confirm that Scott Speedman, our beloved Nick Marsh from previous seasons, will be making a comeback in Season 21! He’ll be back for at least five episodes, continuing his romantic tale with Meredith Grey. Similarly, the remarkable Ellen Pompeo is also returning for at least seven episodes in the upcoming season.

Grey’s Anatomy Was Renewed for Season 21 Earlier This Year

In April, it was announced that ABC would continue Grey’s Anatomy for its Season 21, making it the longest-running primetime medical drama on TV and also the longest-running primetime series on ABC, a title it has held since its debut in 2005.

In their own words, Shonda Rhimes, the creator and executive producer of “Grey’s Anatomy,” expressed gratitude for the unwavering devotion and affection from its fans, which has led us to start our 21st season. Meg Marinis’ narrative skills have kept the series fresh, captivating, and thriving, and I eagerly anticipate what she will bring forth in the upcoming season.

For the upcoming season, the popular TV series Grey’s Anatomy will switch time slots on Thursdays, moving from 9/8c to 10/9c. This schedule change is not indicative of any issues with the show itself, but rather a chance for the network to debut a new program during Thursday evenings.

“Recently, we commemorated the 20th season of ‘Grey’s’, making it the longest-running medical drama on television. In my opinion, the series is brimming with creative energy and remains incredibly captivating, although it may not be the most popular show in terms of previous seasons. Remarkably, we observe fresh audiences discovering the show each month, which indicates that it’s doing quite well.”
